Play by Policy & Design LP on YouTube

Post by StarLab »

Greetings...

Just a quick line to let people know I am back at the YouTube thing again. Besides continuing with the Bacon Mod LP, I'm trying something a little different this time.

The idea is to play the entire game via the Policy Screen and Ship Designer only (essentially playing the role of advisor and ship engineer) while the rest of the empire does its own thing. By adjusting policies we can influence and prioritize many things in the empire. I stayed as "Vanilla" as possible but am using Haree78's Extended mod since it changes little/none of the game core mechanics. I also kept the game as close to "middle of the road" (normal) settings as possible so all normal empires should start at the same growth/tech rate. I also setup two Super-Races (tech level 4) for the game. The AI diplomacy should be a hoot if nothing else! LOL

I'm going to try this for a handful of episodes anyway. I found the game quite engaging to play this way, but we'll see how viewers react. Below is a playlist link and info on the game setup and play style.

Policy Play on YouTube

A FEW BASIC RULES:
1) Most of the game will be automated Except for Characters and Ship Designs. I must play via the Policy Screen. (We are allowed a one-time manual retrofit for the initial ship designs the game starts with).
2) I cannot touch Diplomacy. This is for the AI only. This should make things super interesting! However, there will be the odd "End this War?" popup screen which I will need to answer one way or the other. I will always answer "Yes - End this war" unless we become evil (See rule #4) in which case we will ALWAYS fight on.
3) I am allowed manual control of ONE SHIP ONLY. This is needed as the AI never prioritizes ruins or beacons. They need to be investigated manually. Plus we may just want to observe the odd event/battle that might be interesting so we can use this ship for that. Otherwise this ship will be patrolling HomeWorld manually.
4) If found, I MUST immediately switch to the first Super Governments we find - either Way of Ancients or Way of Darkness. This will impact how we roleplay the rest of the game as good or evil. Otherwise, we keep the government we start with and will side with Good.

STORY:
Many thousands of years ago, a great war swept across the Galaxy. Ancient powers located at opposite ends of the Galaxy swept through and destroyed almost all life in their quest to bring their own version of order to the universe. An unknown event suddenly ended the war but it was too late to save anything. The Galaxy, after centuries of war, was once again still and quiet while many races fought for simple survival.

Not all was lost. Mere embers of life started appearing again on Distant Worlds as the races began expanding their numbers and technology to once again become space faring.

Is there anyone else out there? Are the ancient threats still lurking or were they wiped out like the rest of the races? Time to reach to the stars and find out!
