New SHP icon guide

Post by tracer »

I finally finished the icon guide to accompany the updated SHP files (those included in H2H-fr and SPWAW v8.0). Rockin Harry already completed an excellent guide for the terrain icons in Ter86 and Ter90...mine covers the building icons in the remaining files (Ter61, Ter82, Ter83 and Ter85). My guide is in HTML format, so after downloading unZip it into an empty folder and then double-click on the 'index' (index.html) file. http://www.streamload.com/jimnsb/SPWAW/Icon_Guide_JimNSB.ZIP

Rockin Harry's guide (in PDF format) is now available at the same site: http://www.streamload.com/jimnsb/SPWAW/RockinHarry_New_SPWAW_Shapes.zip

FYI: My guide is 1.61mb (Zipped), Harry's is 1.96mb (Zipped).

EDIT: I should mention that if you've downloaded H2H-fr, you already have Harry's guide...its in the SHP folder, listed under 'R'.

I just heard from Bryan Melvin: both mine and Harry's guides will be included in the v8.0 patch.

We're using v8.0 OOBs right now in the new MC...I guess once its cleared the test hurdles Bryan will release it. But then, I'm at the bottom of the totem pole...there may be other 'factors' involved. ;)

Hey! When I started the SHP project I would post (almost daily! ) requests on this forum asking, begging, for ideas. I remember that a couple times I said "this is your chance to get the icons you want added to the game...if you don't speak up now, don't complain later!" ;) :D Many sent their ideas to me and Rockin Harry (yes Orzel, I know you were one of them!), and every one of those contributions were invaluable and IMO a huge boost to the 'final product'.

Newsflash:
I learned from Rockin Harry earlier today that its still not too late: some icons were needed for the MC, and were added. The SHPs that will be included in the v8.0 patch (and on the Megacampaign CD) will be this 'final set'....so the 'request lines' are still open! Since these last minute additions will be confined to only 2-3 SHP files, we'll make them available as a download (small; about one mb) so that those who only have H2H installed can get them too. We want both of these versions of SPWAW to have the same SHP set so that maps can be used universally.

SO, if you have any suggestions for building or terrain icons, this is your chance! Or if you've made any icons and would like to have them added to the 'official' SHPs, we'll be happy to do that too....remember, if an icon/SHP is only on your computer, any maps/scenarios you make cannot be used/seen by anyone else! If you have a 'rough draft' of an icon I can do the necessary 'centering', and create the other 'zoom' levels for you...just send the .BMP's (in a .Zip file), and let me know which 'category' you want it in: single-hex wooden, single-hex stone, multi-hex, or terrain (non-building). This isn't a beauty contest: we won't be 'selecting' which icons to add...if you send them, they'll be added!

If you're not sure whether an icon has already been included, check out Rockin Harry's Icons Guide (Terrain icons): http://www.streamload.com/jimnsb/SPWAW/RockinHarry_New_SPWAW_Shapes.zip
or my Icon Guide (Buildings): http://www.streamload.com/jimnsb/SPWAW/Icon_Guide_JimNSB.ZIP

This is a 'time sensitive' offer; once the v8.0 patch appears on the Raiders' site you'll know its too late. ;)
