my tanks are fleeing

my tanks are fleeing

Post by crazyivan »

i am playing a long camp and i,m into my 21st battle as germans early 43 at the moment i started at 41.
i have noticed when i'm defending or delaying one or two of my very exp tanks will develope the yellow streak and retreat from a perfectly good position for no reason.
the fighting is often on the extrem flank of another flag hex that i,m protecting no way near my guys that are fleeing.
it only happens to 1-2 tanks and there unit hq and buddies havent even been hit yet.why is this is this some sort of random crew panick check they have not been fired on as yet the fight is else wear.they have a suppresion of about 75-95 and you have to keep rallying them for about 2-3 turns befor they seam to calm down and stay put.
after that its ok. hmmmmmm....

I've seen this behavior through all versions of SPWaW. From time to time it was reported on this board by different people.

The "official" response has always been that they are getting suppressed by artillery or something. Soon after the thread usually died down. :(

I never really understood how this should be possible with tanks far away from any fighting, shelling or not even spotted by the enemy.

The bug (yes, I think it is one ;) ) seems to mostly (only ?) affect tanks. For me, this tanks are usually part of the "B" formation.
I have a feeling that the surpression build up is related to friendly artillery fire (maybe a wrong pointer ?), but this is just a guess.

Since no one has been able to reproduce it there is nothing we can do. There are several "random" bugs like this that crop up everyso often. but is a cause can't be documented there is nothein gthat can be done to even know if it is a real bug and not someting else - like then seeing there buddies get killed.

We can keep saying we haven;t a clue how to fix it, but generally wait and see how many folks "pile on" with me toos.

If only one or two people report it its chalked up to Mr. Murphy.

You just have to live with some of these bugs, we hope in the follup games like Combat Mission that whatever confluence of starts and planets and herbal seasoning doesn't strike again...

I've had this problem too. I play Ver 4.5. It only applies to units in my B or C formations. Their moral will be fine at the end of the turn and then with no enemy interaction they will rout. My solution is to Fill B and C formations with inexpensive units that I keep in my rear.

I've seen this rarely (and once with a "D" formation, so the "B and C" theory isn't the case). I found that if you check the unit stats the leader's rally rating is "0". Idon't know whether that is a cause or an effect.

On version 5.01 I also experienced that bug with a Bx unit but it was a SdKfz.
