Aren't the flamethrowers too powerful?

Post by Muz »

Those goddamn flamethrowers are light, very fast, do a LOT of damage, are very accurate at close combat, and above all, they add to the target's heat. I know you can probably counter them by jumping away or hitting them at range, but in a horde, those Fireball? recon titans are nearly unstoppable, especially if they can get a chance to ambush.

Shields might help, but the extra heat doesn't help it to cool down and those flamethrowers have the bonus to hit, anyway. Besides, the lighter titans can't afford shields. And waiting for em to run out of ammo don't work too well, either, unless most or all of the attacks miss.

So, I thought maybe someone could just tune down the damage a bit. Two hits from those things on the same spot can wipe the armor off just about any recon. I know it's superheated plasma, but surely modern armor has a high melting point? If anything, it should do more internal damage, and much less armor damage. A load of superheated plasma on Dullaroy might melt it a little, but the way the molten armor clogs the missile racks would be the real problem.

And maybe give em less ammo. Fuel is heavy stuff.

Well, their range is really short, and ammo per slot too. They cannot cause instability, and their ammo causes double damage when it explodes.
They are powerful, yes, but not overpowered.

Flamethrowers are really just weapons of opportunity. If you can get within the same hex as your opponent, They shine:) Same with mg and cc weapons. My advice, stay a couple of hexes away from the enemy if they have these weapon types and they will be useless against you.

Staying away doesn't really work when you get knocked down or ambushed. And it's nearly impossible to outrun one of those Fireball recons.

I know that they've got quite a bit of flaws, but those things could take out most non-shielding titans before ammo becomes a problem.

FTs can be a real pain in CC... my solution is to target early and target often. If your faceing several titans don't save the enemy's CC titans to last, take a few AC7 or ML hits from another titan, but get rid of the CCs before they become effective combatants. Once they get toe-to-toe with you, they're going to ripe you a big flaming hole (literally), thats what they're designed to do.
