You can use many other vessels other than minesweepers to clear mines but the minesweepers are better. Some ships clear mines by detonating them.

You can use carrier air on airfields but some players do not like to do so because the pilots are not necessarily trained to do so, you lose highly trained IJN carrier pilots, and to save on sorties for other things.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

Just remember to use it as a training bombing range on the port and airfield in case the Allies try to use it. You could even have a ground attack mission allotted in case there are air support squads placed there. [;)]

I have sunk ships with 60 kg bombs. Even a 50 cal from a US PT Boat. Those 250 kg bombs work fine all the was up to CAs for surface vessels. The more bombs the better. Only against the BBs do the 250 kg bombs not penetrate but they will start fires to burn the ship down to the water line.

The reason why the ship sank during the fighter sweep is that it was damaged and on fire. The fires could not be contained and created more damage which sank the ship.

Units retreat if they can trace a path back to a base unless they are completely destroyed.

Bombard with ships at Noumea if you can. Then they will retreat or else raise the new French flag.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.

I'm not a complete idiot, some parts are missing! :o

thanks. These 4 SNLF units had the worst leaders i've ever seen. I may try it with just new leaders? I don't want to BB with BBs. I could try with DDs.

Bombard with DDs, they won't do much damage to the infrastructure. Definitely change your leaders.

I plan on doing a recap later but briefly the first month was pretty good. I didn't take singapore but i did get a solid toehold on java instead. otherwise the 1st month objectives were met. I didn't sink many of his naval assets but in return i didn't lose many of mine. I lost a lot of sallys due to inattention to detail - forgot to reset altitude higher when attacking high AA targets, fatigued escorts that didn't fly etc. I don't consider that fatal.

If you did not enter the combat hex from a hex side, then the units can retreat through it if there are none of your units there. Press the "W" key to put the hex side control feature one.

If you have kept the Allies from reinforcing Singapore from outside Malaya and have kept units in Malaya from withdrawing to Singapore, then you are good. If you are on Java, even better. Now take Oosthaven and attack Palembang that way. You can work your way around so there is no shock attack which really seems to wreck the industry. Also, shut down the airfield there and bomb the units to cause casualties, increase fatigue and disruption. But when you move into any base with oil, have AAA either there or ready to move in. Have CAP/LRCAO already set up which can interfere with aerial withdrawl of units. You might have to set them to 5000 feet or so.

Try to take a base on the other side of Java, maybe an island even, to put some aviation support and float planes for search so you can see and then disrupt any evacuation. If necessary, put in sub laid minefields to help block the straight on the other side of Java. If you take that base and can put CD guns there, even better.
Seek peace but keep your gun handy.
