Retreat/reinforcement hexes

Post by melcer »

Hi,

Me and a friend usually use designed maps as we dont like the random ones when we play by PBEM. The problem we have run across and failed to solve is that often (more like always :( ) the retreat and reinforcement hexes get switched to the wrong side of the map. It's not fun having yur troops retreat towards the enemy!
We have tried editing the maps placing the hexes were we want them but when we after that set up the battle the placements has switched to new places on the wrong side of the map. I have even tried putting the hexes intentionally on the wrong side but that doesn't work either.

I would be glad for any instructions how to get the hexes to be in the right places in a PBEM game. Thanks.

Hi!

Go into the editor and start editing the map.

key "0" Side one Retreat hex
key "1" Side two retreat hex
Keys 2-3-4-5 Side one reinforcement hex
Keys 6-7-8-9 Side two reinforcement hexes

Look into the manual for details.

Good luck!

I know how to use that in the editor and how to rearrange the starting lines. The problem is that when we set up a PBEM battle using "Map: as designed" the retreat and reinforcement hexes has been rearranged and more or less always turns up on the wrong board edge. The starting lines are as designed though. I haven't seen anything in the manual about this but I must confess that I haven't locked too closly. I thought it much easier to ask here.

Thanks anyway.

Hi!

There is a button named Sitch German side. You could make an attempt with that one.

Maps..

Melcer,

I've seen this map thing pop up a couple of times but nobody seems to have an answer.

From what I gather it has to do with how the map was designed and I think also something with in what order you set up stuff in the battle. For some reason you can't just take any map and play a battle on it - as I understand it if you're playing a meeting engagement Germany vs the Soviet Union, you better have a map made for a meeting engagement Germany vs the Soviet Union, don't try and bring some Ardennes map or something. ;)

There's some other voodo too, some really strange things like the setting of visability before the number of turns (else the number of turns will be around 10-12 regardless of whatever you type in)...

Wrote this from memory and I haven't really bothered with finding out as my PBEM games are mostly SPWW2/SPMBT. :)

we encountered exactly the same problem with my friends.

After having to test our maps a long time, we arrived at the observation that the bug of reversed RH came from nationality employed to play...

It thus has was necessary us to launch the games with a nationality different from those which we want to play (but making no RH bug on this map), then to pass by "NATION" and to choose that with which you wanted to really play.

I have had a few strange things happen when playing with the reinforcement hexes.

I set up some maps recently for a PBEM tournament. Set the reinforcement hexes. We started the games and it all went wrong, units retreating the wrong way etc.

When I looked into it it appeared that if I set up using " battle" then it defaulted to the original but if I set up using "scenario" everything was OK.

As you can guess I tested using the "Scenario' set up.

PS to Mother, Kokoda and Pbhawkins that's my excuse anyway and I am sticking to it.

Having read this many moons ago in the map designers book of wisdom ,its was imperitive to have the nationalities, and dates in mind during the application of the map to the scenario/battle.
the "map maker" has a generator which determines which side the combatants will appear on.
for instance:germans fighting in the western european theatre will fight from the right hand side of the map.
conversly the germans in the eastern european theatre will fight from the left hand side of the map.
So when you look at an atlas its the same!the western desert theatre of operations the brits were on the ---,[cant tell you everything but youve got the info ,so now its easy to work out, weather youre axis or allies.].
REMEMBER ITS THE THEATRE OF OPERATIONS THAT DETERMINES WHICH SIDE NATIONALITIES APPEAR ON AND HENCE RETREAT HEXES ETC. ETC.
