Raiding English ports

Post by pjg100 »

Does raiding the red hatched port hexes on the east coast of England accomplish anything other than make your subs vulnerable? I don’t see that it has any impact on U.K. Production but perhaps I’m missing something.

These scripts are tied into supply scripts that will damage enemy resources. They may then trigger the enemy to react, which could be a good thing if you wish to divert their attention from elsewhere, or even set a trap for them.

It is risky if the UK fleet is strong. More fun is to sucker the US fleet away and sneak your subs there to reduce the ports under 5 [:@]

Blockading South Africa is popular, difficult for the UK to intervene.

Most these hexes reduce the port and some nearby or other item supply, by 1-3 per turn (for both turn, so it is quite effective), it can reduce the income of the affected areas fast and with long term effect. Also, if the convoy starting port is low, the convoy stops, you you can remove entire convoys, quite massive, if you manage to reduce the US convoy to the UK, or even if you just remove the various UK colony convoys to the UK (and works reverse too, removing DEI to Japan is a big blow)

Raiding the Red Hexes does affect mpp income but I can't work out the exact effect.
Can Fury gives us a rough idea, I'm guessing its about 5-10%

It causes damage to nearby enemy resources, overall probably inflicting less MPP losses than a normal raid on a convoy route, but on the plus side, it doesn't use up a supply point.

to accomplish this result without expending a supply one simply puts a surface naval or sub into the red hatched hex?

Correct. Any of the red hatch hexes work.
