Anyway to make turns pass faster?

Post by DasSheep »

Hey everyone,
New player here, it seems like each turn takes like an hour to complete, in terms of when I click end turn and it goes through all the actions. I have the animations turned off already. Anyway to make it...not so slow?

What OS are you using? How old is your computer? Are you using any switches? Welcome aboard by the way....GP

Windows 10! I used some from the thread with the suggestions, though I dont know which cpu to use (cpu2 or 3 or w/e). My computer is about 3 years old and is a gaming computer. I played GGWTE before about 5 years ago and dont remember the turns in that game being even a quarter as long. My first time with this game.

Thanks for any tips you have!

Please copy and paste your switch string so we can evaluate it. The cpu switch is not the only one that you need. -deepColor is very important too. There is also the possibility that you used the wrong "-" character (the hyphen from the top of the keyboard, not the minus sign from the number pad area), or that you put the switches in the wrong place or wrong shortcut properties (DO NOT use the one for the "autorun.exe", you need to create one that points to the game .exe file).
Also tell us about responsiveness to mouse clicks or scrolling while setting up your turn - that gives clues to what switches might help.

Thanks for the reply!

Here is what I have, I tried to figure out what I should go with, based off the tech support thread!

"C:\Matrix Games\War in the Pacific Admiral's Edition\War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -deepColor -px1920 -py1080 -f -fixedArt -skipVideo -multiaudio -SingleCpuOrders -cpu3 -dd_sw

Thanks again for the help!

I also found the tip about pressing F6 on my turn, and that does help a ton on my turn with the scrolling, but it does not seem to make the phase when it shows me whats going on everywhere any faster. Scrolling is still pretty slow with F6, but not as slow as it was before. Thanks again!

In the preferences (second white button from the left at the top of the screen) there is a setting for scroll delay. IIRC, setting it to a lower number increases the scrolling speed. I think mine is set at 1.

Animations, etc. can be speeded up by decreasing the message delays in each type of action. I also found that eliminating sounds speeds things up - every time a sound is required in the animation the game has to find the sound file and play it - thousands of times in a turn play through adds up! I don't find the sounds add much to the game so I turn almost all off.

I don't see anything missing in your switch string, so as long as they are in the right "shortcut properties" in the "target" box, they should be working.
