When is WW3 coming?
Are you guys considering a WW3 version of the SC engine. Maybe 1950s, 1980 and current.
Really enjoying the games with about a 1000 hours between SCWW2 and SCWW1.
Thanks

RE: When is WW3 coming?
I could port my World War Three 1946 Mod over. There wouldn't be much happening in the far east, however. The US and Soviet plans both concentrated on the West and Mediterranean/Mideast.

Korea.
Japan.
Taiwan.
China having a go against the Soviet Far East.
Arab - Israelis.
Proxy wars in Africa.
I'm sure there are other areas where fighting could take place.
RE: When is WW3 coming?
Oh, they could, but my scenario is based on the actual war plans of each side and it was all about Europe and the Mideast.
In 1946 there wasn't much to fight about in the Far East or Africa. Europe still had a virtually untouched Vichy, Sweden, huge supply depots left over from WW2, massive amounts of usable and familiar equipment, manufacturing equipment, millions of slave laborers and a buffer zone. Stalin was hell-bent on making sure there was never another war fought on Soviet soil.
As a non-AI player you could do whatever you want but the scripts are all aimed at Western Europe or the oil fields near the Black Sea and the Red Sea.
The USSR does not have much of a navy in 1946. However, there is a whole bunch of used invasion craft still around Normandy, Southern Italy and North Africa. There was also massive amounts of equipment on select islands in the Pacific but the Soviets have no way of getting there.

I would play it. Let me know if you need a tester.
RE: When is WW3 coming?
All,
I would certainly support a WWIII version but want to put my two cents in for what I think would be a better choice for the next Strategic Command.
WiE is a wonderful game. I manage the ELO standings and we have over 40 players and over a hundred recorded games. There is now ELO standing for WaW.
In my opinion, thee widest complaint about both games has been the naval play. There is a MOD for improved Naval play. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to play it. WaW only exasperates the Naval issues due to the importance of Naval warfare in the Pacific.
There is a marked difference in the tempo between WiE and WaW. WiE on land is a faster-paced more mobile game. China and SE Asia are slogs. The rest of the ground combat is entirely dependent on naval combat.
What I am advocating for the next version is:
Brake WaW into two games that are linked. WiE would stay the same. WaW would be the Pacific theater only, leaving out Africa and South America.
Link the two games with unit transfer boxes, diplomacy, research, and MPPs.
Make some of the current Naval mod part of at least the new WitP (War in the Pacific.)
The hardest part of the linkage would be the time scale differences but I am sure this can be worked out.
So retain the global nature of WWII, get rid of parts of the world that had little impact on the war, retains the fun rapid pace of WiE, and improves naval combat.
Please comment!

RE: When is WW3 coming?
I think for most American players it will be a good game about Pacific. Which does not have great naval war mechanic for now in this game. Interest in WW1- unfortunately as I've expected- low for despite good designed game.

Don’t forget the Chinese civil war during the Late 1940s which would have been settled by a 1951 scenario. I believe the Cuban Missile crisis, Soviet collapse (with polish independence) or the Korean War would be credible starting points for modern era game. I would gladly play test anything anyone comes up with.

RE: When is WW3 coming?
I think that before the 1960’s a WW3 world scenario would be too much one sided, and focused on Europe, the NATO/USA/UK controlled too much of the world (with colonies) and would gain too much resources. Besides the first Soviet A bomb was only in 1949.
After that, mostly in the 1980’s, we would have Soviet puppets in several places in all continents, now only in Europe but in America, Asia, and Africa: Cuba, Nicaragua, Afghanistan, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, North Korea, Angola, Mozambique, Ethiopia… and a Communist China that could lean for both sides and would be a mine of diplomatic events, it would be really a world war.

RE: When is WW3 coming?
I am sold. In an effort to save the soviet empire the USSR starts world war 3. Stranger things have happened. Now we just need an OOB for every country in the world for 1988.
Look at the Soviet Zapad-81 exercise in the 80s as a starting point.

If anyone needs for the project, I have all the OOB and TOE of the world armies for 1981.
Jane's Pocket Book: Armies of the World!
There was a site called OOB that also had lots of information.

I have never developed a mod but if the coronavirus lasts much longer it may be a good time to try.

RE: When is WW3 coming?
Do you know the book "The Third World War: The Untold Story", by the british general John Hackett?
(go to the wikipedia: The_Third_World_War:_The_Untold_Story to have an idea - I still can't post links here)
It could be a good starting point. It is fictional (obviously!), but it portraits quite well scenarios around the world between the Communist block and the West.
I began to play with the editor, just for fun, changing the borders to the 1980's and creating new countries. I am still on a learning curve to understand the editor.

RE: When is WW3 coming?
I am strangling, but after I understand the basics it isn’t that bad. I just still don’t know some functions and sometimes I can lose much time until I find out.
I began to make some changes in the 1939 campaign, introducing absent countries and moving colonies to the colonial powers, and correcting some minor things.
See some of my questions/doubts in the thread “Scenario building guide”, currently below this one.
The major problem will be the scripts, events and the AI.

Please try the Naval Mod that I developed and let me know. I think it does a lot to solve most of the challenges of the original.
It's included in the Community Mods or you can get it HERE
