what I wouild like to see is a kind of generic wargame generator. Something that would allow you to create your own wargame, you could create your graphics and the dynamics of the game without having to master a programming language. There could be plenty of options like rts, turn-based and whatever in between, movement by hex or whichever grid you fancy, scale, specs of the units, etc.
In that way one would be able to create different looking and playing wargames, all made with the same software.
I don't know if I'm clear.
Any ideas?

I beliave there is something from Shrapnel that is in essence a board game engine, I dont realy know any detail on it though..

X-Com was a great tactical squad game, I still remember how excited I was when I found out that you could research alien weapons that you collect on the battlefield, and I used to name the squadies with my friends names and for some reason playing with them was more exciting.. if "Jon Doe" got chopped up.. no problem.. but if its someone with a name you know.. it feels a bit different. (to me any way .. call me wierd if you have too) Its also probably the only game that I could play with the background music on.. its was repetattive as hell, but it added to the atmosphere.. as well as the aminous noise coming from still blackend (unexplored) areas.. and the screams... well I am looking forward to the new release.. I hope it lives up to the expectations.

Hmm.. what else was there.. oh.. Sentinel Worlds: Future Magic .. it was a blast, it was a kind of RPG with space combat, planet exploration, and squad based (a realy simple one) combat, your team was represented by dots that moved a long the radar screen, but I had a blast with that one.. you could board ships, collect minirals, blow up cattle... if I remember it won an award for great game with horrible ending, If I remember the ending was a one screen text description of what happend after, and then you get kicked back to.. um... dddddDOS...

I just learned from another forum that this has now been released In the UK, so a US release can't be far away. I can't comment on the game as I haven't got it yet, but as I'm a sucker for all things X-COM (I even bought the dreadful space sim thing), I probably will.

Edit - just found out, from the same forum, that that the game is slated for release in the US on October 16th.

The trick will be finding it... it was released here on Friday, but I've yet to find a store stocking it :( There's always Amazon, I suppose.

My game for a re-hash would be `Nam (at least I think that's what it was called) - the strat/operational wargame thing with the photos of Johnson and Nixon at there desks as menu screens ?

You could do a great job of that now with a full in-depth wargame mixed with greatly extended political strategy.

Next choice would probably my all time favourite game, ever - Heavy Gear 2. The best "action" game I've ever played.. update the graphs and make it massively multiplayer, or something.

Oh, and one more - Allegiance. Vastly underrated (and under-purchased) online only space action/strategy game. It died mainly because folks hadn't yet grasped the concept of paying monthly subs for something without elves, goblins and pixies in it - but an updated Allegiance would kill Planetside stone-dead IMHO.

Great Naval Battles for me, the ability to have grand strategic combined with able to fight your own battles has always had great appeal to me

Yes, Amazon.co.uk have it for £24.48 incl postage. I just had an e-mail saying it's been despatched, so it should be in my hot, sticky, little hands tomorrow.

I also want Longbow # 3, with Blackhawks included. Loved flying those troop insertion missions :)

It's reached the stores in the depths of the South West now.

Had a quick look. The combat system will either turn out to be excellent, or be intensely annoying.. I'll probably have decided which by the weekend :D

It arrived this morning, so I've only had a chance for a quick look myself. Just in case you haven't found it yourself there is already a small patch for the English language version that fixes a couple of minor problems.

http://www.ufoaftermath.co.uk/?c=Patches&p=patches

Apparently these fixes were included in the release version for other languages.

World in Flames has been in development for ages now, about 5 years since I received my first alpha version I think. You can even download the beta version here http://www.marinacci.com/Chris/

Forgot about Jagged Alliance. Would love to see a new one there. Strat First tossed it. Just as well, but I hope somebody picks up the licence.

Gunny: if you liked Jagged Alliance, have you seen Silent Storm? It seems to be a bit of a resource hog (based on the demo's functioning on my minimal-stats box [P3/600, GeForce3Ti200]) but IMO it's a **** fun game... http://www.nival.com/eng/s2_info.html
