Ground Support Map Display

Post by Bamilus »

Maybe I'm an idiot, but the only way I know right now to see if a ground support will fly with escorts is to turn on air base ranges and then see which of the circles relate to fighters (or click the fighter groups). Would be nice to have a display as either a color around a unit (like the unit mode filter) showing whether it's within ground support escort range or maybe a hex shaded map view. Right now it seems like a pain to try and figure out if something is in escort range for ground support (unless I'm missing something) and it's absolutely BRUTAL to run ground support without escorts.

That's the main reason my ground support is with fighters only (so I don't have to pay attention to this).... which is ahistorical

What i do is manual transfer the fighters as close as possible to the front, and leave everything else at the range limit.

And as Bamilus says, yeah, you can lose 2 weeks bomber production in an attack if you GS without escorts.

I micro-manage mine, too, but a lot of people don't. I just think it's very easy to mess-up using it without an easier display and it's pretty punishing to screw-up. Plus it's something very valuable. I'd trade like 4 map filters to get a ground support escort filter (if that was an option, lol).

+1000!

It would make it so much less user unfriendly as in knowing when to turn GS off because you're out of range!

Only alternative now is to go through all of your JGs and memorize the range circles (or screenshot them I suppose).

Edit: (Or I may be an idiot, entirely possible, and have missed out on a way to check out range circles in the movement phase).

At the moment GS feels like an extremely high stakes gamble that can undo all of your careful, hard work in the Air phase, and that really shouldn't be the case.

Yes, the default should be to fly only with escort. Then a second option of fly without escort.
