Another combat odds question

Fury Games has now signed with Matrix Games, and we are working together on the next Strategic Command. Will use the Slitherine PBEM++ server for asynchronous multi-player.

Another combat odds question

Post by Hartmann »

This was probably clarified ages ago already, but: Does the combat odds prediction take *everything* into account and the result is then plus or minus one because of the result of a dice roll ONLY, OR are there certain things the combat odds prediction itself fails to "see" (like e.g. fighter defense or some terrain bonuses etc)?

If it doesn't see something then it is not taken into account. So sending an escorted bomber that gets intercepted will result in more casualties.

The only other caveat, is that I have sometimes seen naval combats give results different than the expected (+/- 1). Not sure why.

I have noticed it too. A bug? Or was something changed in an update that is not covered by the manual?

It's not update related, because it has been around a long time.

Similarly, HQ leadership is normally not visible (and is a big deal).

Is this from straight naval combat, e.g. a Battleship versus let's say a Cruiser, or from when a Carrier is involved?

I could see something sometimes beyond +/- 1 with Carriers as it can sometimes involve escorts and interceptors and then the direct attack so it is sometimes in these cases, two instances of +/- 1 before final combat results are resolved etc.

I have seen it in combats involving non-carrier surface ships.

Almost always it involves the return fire generating less damage to the initiating/attacking ship than the combat odds state.
