Strange looking helmet

Watching a film about some soldiers in the Indian Army at the end of the nineties in Kashmir. They are wearing the oddest looking helmet I've ever seen. Very unusual looking.

The intention of this type of helmet is to protect from impacts in 360 degrees, while leaving the upper part in cloth to avoid heat.

It is meant to be worn over the Sikh turban.
