Port blockade clarification

Post by ncc1701e »

Checking the manual provided here:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4996958

The rule says:
Port Blockade – Small islands may be blockaded by a single naval groups. All other hexes can be blockaded by 3 naval groups. To blockade a port the fleet must be 1 hex away and able to move into that port from that hex if they controlled it and have no enemy fleets next to that port as well under the same conditions.

@Alvaro, I just would like to confirm two things:
1. Does a friendly naval group into the port being blockade prevents the blockade by the enemy fleet?
2. Does a friendly air group into the port being blockade prevents the blockade by the enemy fleet?

Thanks

Looks like this is the same rule in WPE:
Gibraltar and Malta - if an enemy naval group is next to the port and no friendly naval group is in or next to the port supplies are cut off to each of these ports.

I am surely mistaken. I was under the impression that air units had an influence. I will restest once port blockade is fixed in the next beta.

I am not sure if this post applies to testing of the new update. However in the current version of WPP a friendly naval group in port at a one hex island does not stop/break the blockade. The friendly naval group must be at sea and next to the island.

This post applies to the game in general. I just want to make sure of the rule. In WPE, ships in Malta are blocking port blockade. I just want to make sure this is the same in WPP.
And it seems this is not the case for one hex island.

Friendly ships need to be out at sea.
Air units do not influence blockade.

But they can attack the ships that are doing it.

BTW that bug is fixed and the new beta was emailed out.

Thanks for the clarification but this is different from WPE, correct? Or am I mistaken?
I was under the impression that fleet in port was acting for Malta and Gibraltar.

Thanks for the new patch anyway, back to business.

No otherwise they would never be able to get the port out of supply.
