Is this a bug???

Post by aoffen »

Was just talking about different movement values in the Pripyet Marshes thread and came across this anomaly.

The rules regarding terrain say :

"Rugged – Oil dependent land units cost 1 more operation point to move into the hex; tank factors and retreat chance is halved."

Forest is listed as Rugged. Woods are not. All the wooded areas on the map come up as "Forest" in the mouse rollover yet testing it in game show that Mech and Motorised infantry units only pay 1 OP to enter. The rule does not seem to apply to them despite them being oil dependant units.

Also a tank unit entering a hex with a rail in it from any direction seems to negate the rugged classification. i.e. you don't need to follow the rail line to negate the +1OP

These two issues both seem inconstant with the rules. Are they bugs or are the rules wrong?

Cheers

In fact all terrain costs are negated for all unit types if moving into a hex with a road or rail in it irrespective of the hex you enter from. The direction of the road/rail is irrelevant. For movement purposes it seems a road/rail hex is clear terrain no matter which direction you enter it.

Surely a bug!

No that is correct. This isn't a tactical level game. You enter a road hex you get the benefit

So no need to follow roads to get the benefit? In that case I think you need to get rid of the Pripyet Marsh road. It creates an effective highway thru the centre. Quite an ahistorical outcome.

Also the mech and motorized infantry not paying the extra 1OP for rugged terrain. Is that working as designed because it’s not what the rules say.

No need to follow roads and no need to follow rail lines, no wonder why they are moving too fast. It would be better if when you enter a road/rail hex from a road/rail hex then you get the benefit.

That will probably be next game. The marshes aren't an issue in any game I play. I throw cheap units in there and the Germans can't attack. I don't need many. I just fall back slowly.

Alvaro, what about the mech and motorized infantry not costing the extra op?

As you can see the Tank unit correctly shows 3OP. 2 for the hill and 1 extra for rugged terrain. The Mech unit shows only 2 OP's. This doesn't match what it says in the rules.

Finally worked out how top do screen shots and tested on another hex - Marsh this time. Same outcome. Definitely not W.A.D.
