Poor interface

WarPlan Pacific is an operational level wargame which covers all the nations at war in the Pacific theatre from December 1941 to 1945 on a massive game scale.

Poor interface

Post by Judykator »

I bought the game and I am disappointed especially with the interface. But maybe I don't know something.

I use the keys P N . Is there any option to skip over units that I don't want to give any orders during the turn? Some order "wait" or "sentry".

Why in the report - units there is no filtering for unit types.

The results of the battles are also displayed very poorly.
Sorry for my English. It is not the best.

What games do you usually play? Let's start there. Some players have issues from one type of game to another.

There is no "sentry" or "wait". Most player start in one section and move to other sections of the map to give orders.

Reports -> Units -> at the bottom there are different filter tabs. The green arrow next to the name lets you go to the unit.

You need to elaborate on the battle display. What exactly don't you like?

I play different games.
Here I wanted to play like this:

Press "n" -> order or not; press "n" -> order or not' etc. 2-3 times for all units. I would like a command that would exclude a unit from review in a given turn. "skip unit this tiurn"

1) There is no column with the current number of operating points. Why ??
2) for example:
-- I cannot display only air units
-- I cannot display only air units that additionally have operational points this turn
-- I cannot only view submarines
etc.

Battles that have already been played this turn are not visible on the map. I would seem to be the "B" key, but not. The battlefields should be labeled with some icon when I press "b" ? Then, when you hover over the icon, there should be a battle report as in the window "Combat Log" -> Current" [It is like that in the game "Gary Grigsby's War in the East")

There should be a keyboard shortcut for the combat log and each report.

Seems like you want WarPlan to play like Strategic Command. It has many of these features.

What I can tell you is that I will look at some of these features and see if I can add them in the current model.

The UI is based on the easiest simplest options not to overwhelm the player.

I haven't played this game.

More information for the player and more keyboard shortcuts. And the possibility of skipping a unit in a given turn.

WPP has a poor user interface? I wonder what you think about 90% of Matrix catalogue then. [:D]

Perhaps. I have only TOAW III, GG WitE and War in the Pacific AE. And they definitely have a much better interface.

In true fact, you control far less units then most of those games, with TOAW excepted.

The game moves pretty fast and you can view both the actions of the last turn and the present.

This game is very strategic. Once you figure out your plan, it is pretty easy to follow what is going on. IMO

You play very high level detailed games. WPP is not that high level. It is the next level down but far less than WitP or WitE.

Strategic Command 3 is slightly less than WarPlan.

Then everyone else is below warplan.

So if SC3 is say a 6, WarPlan an 8 in complexity, WitE or WitP is a 63 lol.

It would also be nice to see more reports as well.

Like losses by year and loses against each country just to name a few. Especially in Warplan where showing the losses Germany has had just against Russia would be very useful. As right now we only see the total losses against everyone which does not really mean a lot as the war goes on.
