Any docs on in-game editor?

Post by eyegore »

I've been playing with it but there's some things I do not understand.

When I go to add a bonus: IE research all 5% and chose "item" then it creates a research spot that I can build a station. If I choose "empire" instead of "item" nothing happens in game to create a station. Also much of the list is not research related like "Ship fire rate" or "colony corruption reduction" and if included with the research station does nothing. Do these have to be added to colonizable planets? Does the "empire" choice also only work on like planets?
There's nothing in the manual nor ingame pedia on how to use the editor and the editor has no tooltips. There's also nothing on any of the forums explaining it's use.

Bonuses are not research-specific.

"Item" means the bonus applies to the currently selected planet only.

"Empire" means the bonus applies to your whole empire.

To get any of these bonuses, you will need to have a colony on the planet.

The only exception are Item Research and Item Scenery bonuses, which can be acquired via Research and Resort stations respectively, built in orbit of the object.

So if you want to build a research station on a planet, you will need to give it an Item bonus on All Research (applies to all research areas) or a specific Research bonus (applies only to one research area, and not all research areas get their own bonuses).

Thanks for the information I really appreciate it. I suspected non research bonus's and 'empire' bonus' had to placed on colonized planets but wasn't sure.

Using the editor then can help fine tuning your race beyond what's available in game setup.

I get the feeling the editor is a bit of a stub at the moment. I suspect that improvements are somewhere on the to-do list, just, you know, somewhere way down there.

Indeed, it's not very important relatively to other game mechanics, so it would make sense, still its a pretty unique point of this game, ability to modify the galaxy on the fly, I love it
