Saved Data

Post by LGKMAS »

Oaky, had a hard drive crash. Luckily my data is saved onto an external HD.
problem is, once I re-install the program, it won't recognise any of the saved programs.
I copied the whole folder of saved across to the new instal, stripped out the UTC data in the file titles and thought that was all that had to happen.
When I open up the saved games list, I get a list of the slots with the game date of the save. But no descriptions! And when I click on the slot, it comes up with a message that file cannot be loaded.
What have I done wrong? And what can I do to get back my saved files? After playing for over 2 game years, I am rather reluctant to start afresh. Although what I have learnt over the last three years will no doubt make for a better approach to the game right from the start now.

Perhaps the saves are corrupted?

You may upload them here so that other players try to load them.

If the files were saved via backup software, they are likely compressed. You need to use the restore feature to unpack the files to whatever directory you want to save them in.

Oaky, an update.
I had re-installed from the DVD sent to me in 2019. This was the first time I had used the disk as I had downloaded the game and was playing it well before it arrived in my post box. So i simply put the DVD away in a safe place without checking what was on it.
What I hadn't realised was that the disk only loaded the original 2009 version, not the latest updates as at the date of the purchase.
So I was trying out the various switches time after time and getting nowhere, when I noticed the version displayed on the screen was not right. It was showing a 2009 date. So bloody obvious but then everything seemed to be working as before except i could not saved games to load! When I reloaded from the DVD, for some reason the update.exe file had not run.
I then downloaded the update from the Matrix webpage and after some further fiddling with switches, it has all come good again. Well nearly so as all the descriptions of the saved games have disappeared. But as far as data saved goes, I am now nearly back where i was. I can game again!
Now I do need to go back into the shortcut and write down the switches I have used and put in big red writing that I need to check the version Number before I go any further. Hopefully this will mean the next time I have a hard drive crash (like hopefully never!) , I know what to do.

The game-provided Update link never really worked so you did well to find all the missing bits and pieces! Good luck and enjoy!

If you are having trouble getting switches to work, be aware that the shortcut the game installs pointing to "Autorun.exe" is just for a menu. You need to have a shortcut to the War In The Pacific - Admiral Edition.exe file.
