UPDATE: March 28th - This has been replaced with the official 1.0.2.8 update. Please use that or later updates instead of this hotfix.

Hi everyone,

We found a few issues in reports on 1.0.2.6 that were significant enough that we decided to go ahead with a hotfix this weekend. If you are having hangs/freezes/crashes with 1.0.2.6 and are willing to do a manual install, please give this a try.

You will need to download either the Steam & Matrix version or the GOG version of the hotfix, depending on your installation location, then unzip it to your DW2 installation directory. If anything goes wrong, you may have to verify files (on Steam or GOG) or reinstall from the start to restore your previous installation.

Changes in this build:

- fixed crash when clearing pursuers from target
- fixed hang due to fighters incorrectly taking their parent carriers 'Prepare and Attack' missions
- exclude ships with manually assigned attack missions when determine whether to break off attack against a target (target jumps outside engagement range or fuel range, etc)
- fleets and ships now better at retaining attack missions against targets that jump to another location, especially when target remains in same system
- fixed bug blocking direct attack fleet missions
- shortened wait time before attacking when fleets regroup at a waypoint (Prepare and Attack), i.e. fleets commence attack phase faster once reach waypoint

Helped me a lot, was not able to continue with 1026, as it freezes every time, when autosave started or I tried to manual save the game.

Now it worked again, even I had one CTD in 2h , when it tried to autosave, but when reloading from the autosave before it workes again ...

so there is still some tweak needed, but at last it works for the majority of time

Are there any logs in your /data/logs sub-folder for that one crash?

wait, will have a look, was playing ...
no there is nothing

but this following is the only one left, as I deleted everything, apart the save, before I installed the hotfix
but it was in
G:\Games\steamapps\common\Distant Worlds 2\log
no crash since that

Still crashing when you zoom in (in 1.0.2.7). It seems if you zoom in quickly enough you can trigger this crash. 1.0.2.4 worked though. GFX Vega RX 64.

Does this help with the crash from watching a battle or are we still working on that one?

Hi everyone!

My game started crashing at some point while i was playing on 1.2.0.6 and I installed 1.0.2.7 hotfix from this thread.
It was fine for several hours but at some point crashes started happening more often again (pretty far into the game) so I changed save interval to 2 minutes. But just now something weird happened with my savegames. They went from ~83 MBs to ~55 MBs and those smaller ones are crashing the game when I try to load them.
I've attached an archive with my autosaves (both good and bad). I hope you can figure out from them what causes this behaviour. Something clearly was corrupted during that save.

My perfomance also drops in combat with fighters/bombers significantly (down to a slideshow sometimes). Not sure if it is related to 1.2.0.7 though because I didn't build that much small craft until this hotfix.

I upgraded to the 1.0.2.7 hotfix, started a brand new game, and it went fine for a couple hours but then started with the same problem, of crashing to desktop every 15-20 minutes, usually while paused (ship design screen usually).

I turned off auto-save, after seeing some people mention it crashed while auto-saving (I dont know how the autosave interval is supposed to work anyway, I've had it at 5 minutes, and at 3 minutes, and I'm lucky to get an autosave once an hour or so). I still had the same problem with crashes while paused.
Just when I get the hang of a game, I buy two more... :)

Played an additional 8h or so without ctd, but
just had one WITHOUT any new log ...
but game is already slow , even I am already playing with 0,25 all the time ...

Seems I need a new PC :D m< potato is too slow

Sorry that I am not able to help with any essential technical information or log :shock:

Yes, 1.0.2.7 should have fixed that one.
Consistently crashing at autosave in 1.0.2.7

No crash.dmp file generated but have attached save file for you to try to replicate.

I only have the session log, I've never seen a crashdump file that others mentioned. This session only lasted about 5 minutes, I changed the target on a couple exploration ships (new start, still in home system), dealt with a pirate request, and when I tried to select a new mining site it crashed to desktop.

I've submitted two previous reports through the reporting tool (from 1.0.2.4 and 1.0.2.6) with saves, this was a new start.
