TRP (Total Realism Project) for Strategic Command - War in Europe

Before I go into details I want to thank the Fall Weiss mod for letting me use their work for my starting point.
- NOTE: Although I used their mod as a baseline you will discover it is very much different.

I also want to thank the Devs for this game. They have been very responsive and helpful and their modding editor is the best thing since sliced bread was invented :lol:

This mod has one focus, make the AI as good as possible with no cheating. It is designed for single player (you can still play multiplayer). If I make some strange changes (example their are rails in all parts of Albania and Greece because of AI reasons) it is good to point them out but odds are it is because the AI has issues with it.

The height for this map is at the maximum setting that the game can handle. If it could go higher I would do it so that all of South America could be added. Yes, the map is done with all the weather patterns, edges etc...

Some personal notes before you play
  • Air Power is the key to knowing where your enemy units are (Carriers are King).
  • Their are allot more convoy routes, enjoy the sub-warfare as it will make a difference
  • When invading countries, destroy their navy because it will continue to fight even if they surrender
  • Partisans are more active
  • HQs no longer cost an arm and a leg
  • AI gets NO CHEATS, it gets the same units as a human player does
  • Spain no longer joins Axis if you take Alegria. Yea Franco did not want to get involved in the war so now you need to take Gibraltar via an invasion before he will consider it.
  • Army size units have been removed
  • Anti-Tank tech is important
  • If you declare on a minor that is part of another minor (for example Portugal East Africa) then its parent will join the other side and get involved.
  • Turns are simultaneous and their are allot more turns in the year
  • AA has a range of 2 so they are deadly to planes!
Difficulty Settings
  • Veteran - will give AI major powers 50MPPs per turn once at war (USSR 25MPPs per turn while at peace)
  • Expert - will give the AI free research
Recommendations to make it harder as Axis
  • Decision to keep the Lutzow as Germany (say Yes)
  • Decision on 1/1/1941 to send equipment to Russia (say No)
Recommended Difficulty Settings
  • Difficulty - Expert
  • +1 Spotting
  • +1 Experience
  • +20% MPP
On purpose issues
  • You can no longer cross land units from Denmark to Sweden. This was done so that convoy routes can go through the area and this loss is minor and more historically accurate anyways.
  • Some MINORS land units cost less than my regular units. This is because all minors land units are weaker than the major power units with the exception of Russia as their land units are as strong a minor.
  • Mobile tech has been removed

Installation Instructions'
  • Make sure you have Strategic Command War in Europe Installed
  • Download the mod
  • Open File Explorer
  • Select "Documents" folder on the left hand side
  • Double Click "My Games" in the body area
  • Double Click "Strategic Command WWII - War in Europe" in the body area
  • Double Click "Campaigns" in the body area
  • Unzip the mod into that folder
  • Run SC Europe and it will show up on the scenario list

Updated for TRP 0.9.1

Had to do an emergency fix for the Yugoslavia event. I broke it in 0.9 with a last minute change.

I'm enjoying this mod a lot. One thing I noticed is that when the USA agrees to supply Russia through Vladivostok it is charged the full 80 supply points rather the "40 for 80" offered.

That's done on purpose.

How is everything else coming along? Does the AI seem better? Is it more challenging than the base game? How is balance?

In my game uk declared war to Libia without declaring war to Italy, crossed the border and attacked the italian corp in tobruk. Italy si still neutral. :D

Thats odd, I do not believe I put anything in the code for the UK AI to DOW Italy. Do you have a saved game just before it or just after it?

I hope it is readable, the screens show the UK war status and the attack in LIbia.

I also noticed that the fall of Poland was very late even if Germany took Warsaw in September, but it happen only at end of october Poland when most of the polish army was slaughtered.

I hope you could solve the UK problem, cause this mod is the one I was lloking for!

Are you playing the Allies?

As for fall of Poland it does not always take that long. I need to put the CAP of 5 strength back in. I removed it by accident a few test runs back before I made it public.

How do you do that? Did not think that was possible to play a specific country and let the AI play the rest.

Select (circle) the countries (in your faction) you wish the AI plays, the remaining are the ones you keep.

Yesterday I started a new game, this time Poland surrendered after the fall of Warsaw, but UK in Aprile 1940, again, declared war to Libia, but did not enter the colony. I played until the fall of France; nothing unusual happened (Italian declaration of war, invasion of Norway etc.).

If the UK has any OFFENSIVE AI scripts aimed at Italian territory then the AI will declare war on Italy when the conditions for the script are met, could that be happening here?

That was my thinking, I thought that it would only use an Offensive command to do a DOW if it had a BUILD_LENGTH that is greater than 0. None of the commands for Libya are greater than 0.

If my assumption was wrong then it means anytime their is any offensive command into a hex that is a neutral country the AI will try and DOW regardless of BUILD_LENGTH?

Well, I chose to play the Allies vs. AI Axis, which I have done many times with other versions of WiE. I'm afraid the Allies, but particularly Britain had it very easy. They were going to have the war won, I believe, by the end of 1943. The AI didn't seem at all aggessive. By contrast, I have since been playing Fall Weiss 9.1 and find the AI much more aggressive.

Please keep in mind that Fall Weiss is a nice mod but it does provide lots of free units to the AI in key areas.

I removed such events from the base version I was using and the goal was to make the AI better. So when you say the AI was not as aggressive can you give me some specifics? What happened in North Africa and Ethiopia? What was going on in the war in the Atlantic and were you bombing the UK and what was the AI doing?

I confirm uk too strong, in NA crashed the italians and AK with easy. Top many units were brought from uk to egypt in 1940/41. Also in 1940 it has too many DD including the dutch one.

I believe this is correct, so the way around it is to have a very high BUILD_LENGTH number, e.g. if you do not wish to have the AI declare war but instead build up towards that position, and then a second script with a different offensive location to be used as the actual declaration of war event if that is what you eventually want the AI to do under the desired conditions.

It is already setup that way with a BUILD_LENGTH of 0. So they should not DOW but it appears they are according to these testers.

Sorry to clarify, I just meant that I believe it is correct that a build length = 0 will cause a DoW and the work arounds would be as I described.
