When can we expect Air for AI?

Post by WiZz »

Hello.

I was absent from the game for a while. Does AI still not design and use air forces (helicopters or planes) on appropriate planets?
If no can we expect them soon?

They do, but not very well.

Usually I only see nemesis start AI use air forces at all. Many majors decide not to build air forces and use only ground based air defenses. I heard it's supposed to be 50% chance a Major builds air forces but either I'm really unlucky or it's less than that. Even when they do build air forces I see a lot of bases but not many planes(with very good recon from spies).

Hopefully with Vic working on AI improvements according to the blog there will be better and more use of air forces by AI in the future.

I play without air. It is just not fair. Maybe it works well in multiplayer. In solo play it is imbalanced. I don't particularly miss it.

I find it's pretty cool in multiplayer - adds another dimension for sure. Never tried it solo.

the ai i just attacked had good ornithopters or whatever the flapping wing planes are called. they didn't use them because i had a motorized flak gun unit (they're good for hard attack in large calibers early game but expensive) but i heard someone talking about a youtube aar where the ai was using dive bombers to good effect

ive had other games where the ai will have some fighters and fighter-bombers they'll use

play with nemesis on if you want an advanced ai enemy with good planes

So the air AI was really, really bad before, and it seems it has learned how to build planes recently. So would you recommend playing with air forces or without them? Before it just gave player large advantage as the AI's plans for air war was very limited, any changes in the current version that made it worth trying or just better stick with just land forces as the air AI is more or less incompetent still?
