Infantry Equipment Research

Post by LoneRunner »

This issue may have already been covered in the forums but I couldn't find it.

According to the manual each level of infantry equipment research increases land attack and defense values by 0.5 for regiments, brigades, and rangers. When I review the properties of a brigade that is upgraded to level one infantry equipment, the attack values are unchanged. That makes sense because the 0.5 increase in attack value for the upgrade is rounded down.

However, the upgrade increased all defense values for the brigade by 1.0.

Do attack values round down and defense values round up? Or are the defense values reported under properties incorrect?

I was attempting to determine if upgrading regiments, brigades, and rangers to level 1 infantry equipment made any difference in combat effectiveness or should I wait until I reach infantry equipment level 2 to upgrade the units.

Brigades have 2 attack and 2.5 defence by default (and there's a similar half-point difference in regiments and rangers too), and all stats always round down.
This means that when you upgrade a brigade to level 1, it becomes 2.5 attack and 3 defence, ie. a brigade upgraded to level 1 will have a one point defensive advantage over a level 0 brigade, and no offensive advantage. Once it is upgraded to level 2, it has both an offensive and defensive advantage over a level 0, and only a defensive advantage over a level 1.

So in short, yes it is worthwhile to upgrade your brigades to level 1 :)

Thanks BNC. Didn't realize that brigades have 2.5 defense. So, it's worthwhile to upgrade brigades to both level 1 and level 2. Very sneaky, haha.

As I side note, I never really understood why say 2.5 value should be rounded down :? Everything is multiplied by readiness in the end, right? So we could have for example 80% readiness brigade on 0 or 1 equipment, which would be 2*0,8=1,6 and 2,5*0,8=2, so 2,5 could give +1 result, if not rounded down at the beginning. Is there some logic to why kill those 2,5 values?

Well I checked this and it appears that +0.5 is included in combat calculations, even when not displayed. So, I can in right situation have a unit with 2 attack and odds in combat displaying 1:0, then when it has attack of 2.5 (which is still shown in properties as just plain 2) it has combat odds of 2:0. Good to know that those +0.5 gives you something, I guess.

I knew it is included, so I did not fret over this, but what is not optimal is to not display half points in the interface. Only if you look in the editor that you know brigades are better in defense than in offense...
