[1.0.6.4] Orders? Don't bother, I know better! - your humble AI

Post by Thineboot »

Imagine your Admiral decides to head for a refuel to his nearby pirate buddy's base. Once arrived the flag ship gets served first, it's the Admirals ship, what did you expect? Since he has attention deficit disorder he decides it's time to head back to their home base - cut off your fuel-lines, we're heading home is the new order and who will dare to disrespect the order of the Admiral? A captain sends out a distress call and a sensible little fella, responsible for their sector in section keyboard of the Empires fleet head quarter, decides to overrule the Admiral's order based on code 157.9, chapter JK8, and sends out a priority order for the fleet to continue refueling all ships. But only static noise seems to hit the Admirals ear drums. Drums, oh those lovely drum of my ancestral home, COM, switch off this noise and lets hear the drums of our ancestries, preserved by the 8th fleet. So the fleet starts spinning up their hyper drives with NAV setting course to home base.

Meanwhile head quarter listens to an advisor suggesting to send the fleet to a nearby system, where a grown up Vordikar was sighted not long ago. The advisors request is granted and sent via hyper com to the flag ship of our Admiral. As a good naval officer the Admiral obeys a direct order from his superior. One may think. Yes, officially the fleet receives a new order, including a new direction close to their actual position. But for some reasons the NAV COM doesn't work properly, eventually a reflection on the fading off drums, and so the fleet keeps jumping toward their far away home base, as the disordered Admiral has ordered.

Imagine playing a game where the player sits in the back seat and watches the game overruling their orders again and again... in February 2786 - what's this date based on? What happened more or less 2786 years before? Anyway, imaging enjoying a game where you're allowed to give orders that are actually executed by the game. Imagine what a great game that would be...

Orders? Don't bother, I know better! - your humble AI

I've encountered some situations recently where my manual fleets weren't doing nothing when given the order to attack an enemy fleet. Elliot said that would be fixed in the next update. Hopefully that will also make the admirals more compliant...

How do you perform a proper keelhaul - in space?

I read Elliot's response... we'll see if it has an effect... hope, hope, can you hear me, hope, don't die, you can do it, hope, stay with me, babe...

I'm having tons of trouble getting fleets to do anything remotely like what I ask them to do.

I tell them to attack a fleet - they just don't.
I tell them to move next to it - they will. then they start wandering off somewhere else.
If I tell them when they're RIGHT THERE to attack the enemy - they actively MOVE AWAY.
It all makes no !@#$!@ sense!

I'm also having terrible trouble with the game's sense of "where is the fleet?"
I see the fleet symbol - but there's only exactly one ship there. Where the hell is the FLEET, not "one example of it?"
And why the hell does the fleet constantly ostracise their fleet admiral? Why do they consistently go anywhere OTHER than where the flag ship goes?

Still seeing tons of examples of fleets not moving -- going to jump - but then just sitting there - unless of course I zoom in. then they're like "oh shit, they're watching what we do - quick - pretend we're following orders".

Only lately, they're just as likely to not even bother being performative - just remaining where they are and not moving, not landing their fighters, just ignoring whatever orders - because "they're not the flag ship - and clearly, fleet orders ONLY apply to that one ship alone (if even that)"

i was about to start a thread about this.. they just don't give a fuck, when I tell them NOT to attack something :D it wouldn't bother me so much if it wasn't set to manual... it's not enough to manually pull back fighters, the only way to avoid ships to blow something up they shouldn't is to set them to do not engage, but that's not what I need when I only want to keep specific targets in 1 piece. can we have a don't shoot at selected items button (and shortcut) please?
Another favorite, when I tell some ship to refuel, then no, fuck you, we keep chasing random freighters instead. no matter how many times I order them to do it, unless I change settings they do what they want. my admirals are influencers practically.

also, I think retrieving fighters should be possible on fleet level
