Are there developers still working on this game?

Sorry if this is already covered somewhere else. What are the plans for the future of this game?

A large update has been in development since 2019. So far, it has only been revealed that it has, among many other elements, this feature:

I wonder how many more years we have to wait for this so-called big update.

The last promised big update turned into a small update and the big update became TOAWIV that had to be bought. I wouldn't be surprised if something similar happens again.

When it comes to effects of leadership on a game a good place to look is War in the East. It effects... well, everything. By the time it has been fully integrated TOAW will be completely different to what we play today. So if you want to market it as a new version. That's fine by me.

Every time the code base is split off to form a new release the user base is also split. I know people who don't play or design TOAW any more because they were put off by TOAW IV and some of the changes which are fundamental rather than optional, like the rebuilt graphics and UI and the naval engine.

For myself, the monetary cost of another game isn't really an issue- provided there's some features worth having. However there are few enough people in the community as it is and sheering off another set of old players would be unfortunate

Regarding changes, my 2 cents would be to make more of the scenario design aspects easier to directly control.

It is too difficult to obtain desired results because the code, in the background, does so many things that impact unit and formation status. Some variability is okay, but as it is, scenario design too often feels like a struggle with an unseen opponent who is buried in the program code.

Cheers
