After months fathoming the properties of this game its now moving on to strategy of the game with that information.
In "Road to Leningrad" the present test it is doubtful that more than 3 VC will be achieved before the end.
Clearly the strategy is faulty.
I have added 6 saves that compromise my moves for the game. I hope this information transfers such that it is able to be seen. (Does this just show the end phase or the whole moved made as I have not done this in reverse?)
The Russians just have "too much" in the way to be able to achieve more than 3 VC which means "some other way" is needed.
It would be very useful if someone could send me saves that show WHAT way a victory is possible.
I also hope that I will be able to see the combat results (ground) etc via these saves.
I look forward to the Forum's help in how a more knowledgeable player is able to "really" play this game.
T2 The Good:
You took Riga, which is very good, and have it set up for receiving naval supply. This is great for sustaining your advance.
You also made a few good pockets and kept most units within command range of their HQs.
The Bad:
You didn't take either Ventspils or Liepaja. You need to take Ventspils with infantry on T1 and Liepaja with a panzer or moto regiment. Otherwise the Soviet troops in Kurland will be in naval supply despite being cut off on land.
You didn't advance at all on the eastern side of the map. This is bad for several reasons. First, there are lots of Soviet troops here that need to be pocketed and destroyed. If they escape, they will be much tougher to deal with later on. Second, this is probably the best route for your FBD due to the double rail line. The idea is to convert rail in the direction Kaunas - Vilnius - Daugavpils - Pskov.
The Ugly:
It looks like you forgot to move FBD 4. This is your single most important unit. If it doesn't advance, the rest of your army will not get very far either.
T3 The Good:
You took Liepaja. You're using the air force for recon, which should be its main task this turn. You've advanced pretty close to the Velikaya river, which should allow you to cross the river soon and threaten Pskov. Most units are still pretty close to their corps HQs.
The Bad:
It would probably be helpful to break some of the Pz/Moto divisions into regiments so as to cover more ground. (The "b" key is your friend.) The ground you took on T2 could have been taken by 2 mobile divisions at most. You have 6, so you should have taken 3 times more ground.
You have not advanced towards Parnu. It is important both for naval supply and as a stepping stone towards Tallinn/ Narva.
Still not doing anything on the eastern side.
You have not reduced the pocket near Tilsit. Deliberate attacks with infantry work great against the tougher pockets.
The multiple priority 2 rail depots near Koenigsberg and Tilsit are probably just a waste of AP. You can press the "8" key to see where your units are actually getting supply.
The Ugly:
While FBD 4 has moved, it is in a very strange place. I would guess that it has converted some rail around Raseiniai, but this is not connected to any "green" rail so it's of no immediate use to you. You should have extended the rail out of Memel this turn, and got a depot running at either Siauliai or Jelgava.
That being said, your T5 is not as hopeless as you seem to think. I've played it and was able to take Pskov and Parnu and make some nice pockets (see attached file). Going forward I would try to take Tallinn and Velikie Luki on the flanks and also advance at a steady pace towards Leningrad. When you encounter a strong enemy line, you make 1-2 holes in it using deliberate attacks by infantry and then you send through the tanks and moto to make pockets. Next turn you eliminate the pockets with infantry, use tanks to advance to the next enemy line, rinse and repeat.
Also don't forget about rail repairs, you need to get that line to Pskov as soon as possible.
