China 37 scenario

Post by generalfdog »

I have brought this up before but it just seems like a shame for a scenario that has potential to be fun, to be junk because of the lack of a few tweaks. between a lack of units and the partisans the 37 scenario is completely un-winnable as Japan, impossible to even achieve even historical results against a somewhat competent player. If anyone has a strategy that would prove me wrong I would be glad to be proven wrong

Just needs more testing. I saw the manpower post.

Anything else that comes to mind?

I would think the game should revolve more around the Japanese achieving their 1941 advance...

But based on the location of the Victory locations they have zero chance to ever even come close to winning.
Even if they capture everything that the Japanese do in 1942/43 they would still lose due to victory points.

Perhaps there should be more VP in the outer ports...but that in turn would give the Chinese more VPs so they would again likely just win.

IF some VPs were added in Manchuria and Japan, maybe it might be closer

I would second what stjeand says on victory objectives. For me the big issue is Partisans that really is the biggest issue other then unachievable objectives , I agree they should be bad in China but they are just ridiculous, maybe be ok if Japan started with more divisions or something to help keep them in check but as is Japanese units lose supply so often they are always way down on effectiveness. Japan should start with at least one fighter they have 2 bombers but no fighters so China has air superiority which seems odd. Other then that it would need to be played more and see how it worked, the basics are good and the European scale in China are fun

I added an air sup to the Japanese line up. There were IJN land based aircraft.

I also bumped up the frontline unit experience by 5-10% and gave the japanese 50 -> 60 default experience.

Let's start with that.

As for partisans this is what I do. I take beat up divisions that are around 1/2 strength and pull them back for partisan duties.

If this still makes the scenario difficult I will increase Japanese production next. The adjustment above should lower casualties

Al, this issue is not that the Japanese don't have units strong enough...necessarily.
Yes that does appear to be true but to win...

The Japanese have to take locations that they did not historically take ever.

There are 8 VP locations on the map.
The Japanese should take 2 by turn 2 the latest...
That leaves 6 in Allied hands.

Historically they were able to only take one more before 1942.

That is 3 to 5...instant loss.

To win they have to take all 8, which there is no way that they can.
At best I see them taking 5 and not until late 1939...and by then the game is already over.

I think what needs to happen is the Japanese should have a few VP locations of offset the Allied.
If they can't stop the Allies from having more VPs by mid 38 they can never win.

And based on the locations of the VPs...that is impossible.

In the 1939 scenario there is a VP on Formosa and on Japan and even in Manchuria...
I think Japan needs to get at least 2 VPs JUST to keep up with the Allies.

But time will tell.

I wonder if I forgot to give the Japanese base victory locations?!?!

I'll run some tests.

What's interesting is when you finish the game if you do well as Japan it will sayt better than history major victory. and worse than history for China but it still says major allied victory and since they are the only 2 combatant nations it is non sensical
