Request for art and proposed stats for Japanese BB -hypothetical ones

Post by Cavalry Corp »

Guys and Girls,

Looking at doing a new variant of Empire mod with less CV construction prior to WW2 but weaker treaty so more BB, kind of halfway house to WPO. Now Empire mod is pretty much ironed out, we are finding less and less to improve, I will use Scn 42 to make a new one soon.

I was hoping someone may have art for the hypothetical but planned Japanese BB/ BC

I have Amagi and Tosa - hoping for some of the others.

Would also be interested in any art for the super Yamato if anyone has that - mine is not all that good.

In hope :)

I have WPO and if it's cheap enough I would buy a copy. Could be worth the investment. Also check out sids RHS scenarios. He has a lot of older stuff in there....GP

AltWNT scenarios might be worth looking at, they have both data and art. Specifically SCEN#44, the ultimate BB one, has Amagi, Tosa, Kii and No.13 (Settsu) for the treaty era stuff. The other scenarios have a couple of other designs that might be interesting, including B65 and one of the interwar 3x3 16in designs (Yamato in SCEN#46).

Obviously very little is certain about the A-150 design, or "Super Yamato". We only know that it was planned that it would have six 51cm Type 98 guns (in three twin turrets), that it would have "many" 10cm DP guns (presumably around a large central superstructure), a 470mm armoured belt, and that after initial design feasibilities, it was found to be unfeasible due to displacement going up to around 90,000 tons which (a) reduced the design speed from the hoped-for 30 knots and (b) made the overall construction "too expensive". The basic hull shape was like the Yamato, just much heavier (making for a deeper estimated draft of 40 ft, versus 34 feet for the Yamato).

So. With the above, one can assume political will to just go ahead and build it, consequences be damned. And on this basis one can estimate, perhaps, a 90,000-ton ship with the following stats for WitP-AE purposes (I have assumed they could up the powerplant SHP from 150,000 on Yamato to 200,000 on the Super Yamato):

Max speed: 27 knots; cruise, 15 knots; maneuverability: 21, displacement: 90,000, durability: 255 (the max value in the editor, I believe), fuel 3700, endurance 4,800 nm.

Now. The main guns. These I estimate to have the following stats for Witp-AE purposes:

51cm/45 T98 Gun: Range: 46; Effect: 4385; Penetration: 980; Accuracy: 16; Antiarmor: 490; Anti-soft: 97

Here is one visualisation of a "what if". Three large twin-gun turrets for the 51cms, much larger central superstructure than Yamato. Otherwise profile the same.
