Hex Number ground turned on

Post by ss2020warrior »

I don't know what I did, but I can't figure out what turns off these numbers.

It starts at 100 and reduces out from a base across the land. I have tried figuring this out. Does anyone have some quick advice?

These are supply path values.

You probably selected a base and pressed "5" on the keyboard. Press "5" again for the numbers to disappear.

From the manual:
[5] Display supply path from base (yellow dots in PBEM, numeric value vs AI)

+1….follow up.

Logistics is the core foundation of the Pacific War and this game.
There are some things in the game that are abstracted.

The game moves supply overland automatically. This represents the trucks and
supply corps units which move supplies overland to bases and units in the field.

By pressing the 5 key you can see the possible paths that supply may travel.
Supply moves on a weekly schedule if it is able to move.

When you press the 5 key it can take some time for the game to figure out
the possible paths. You need to wait until it appears and then turn it off as
soon as you can because it will slow down the game.

The Outlaw:
https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 9#p2736079

“Supply will not move automatically overland through a
hexside owned by the enemy nor through a contested hex.

How often supply will automatically move overland depends on the quality
of the overland transportation links. The table in s.8.3.1 of the manual details
the cost of moving supply through the different terrain types and transportation infrastructure.

Each overland transportation route has a value which is determined by
subtracting from 100 the cost of movement associated with each hex along
which the supply must travel. The value of the overland route then
determines how often a delivery is made:

• Four times per week if the overland transportation route amounts to 89 -100
• Two times per week if the route amounts to 49 – 88
• Once per week if the route amounts to 10 – 48

Bases will only export supply which is viewed as surplus.
Supply in excess of 3x the amount required by the base is considered surplus.
This surplus supply may go to another base or be consumed by LCUs in the field.”

The important thing to note in Trugrit's post is "possible paths". So the number 80 in a hex means that it is possible for 80% of the original supply output to reach that hex. But supply flows to where the demand is, so if there is no unit in the hex and the hex is not on the path to any unit, the supply does not go there in actual turns.
IIRC, the supply distribution view using the '5' key is not available in PBEM games.

Thanks, I did not see a list of what the 4-9 do in the manual. At least now I have 5.

Thanks, I printed Alfred's document. Trying to figure out how to prosecute the war, and learning about Resources and Logistics is a very big task. WOW, this is fun.

There is a hotkeys table very near the first page of the manual.
