Almost Infinite technology progress loophole with retire/repair advanced ship

Post by Erixonich »

Hi, just played game with very slow research progress setting and I think I found cheese strat how to get quickly expensive tech with found ancient ship.

So it is a middle game, I have 20 colonies and most techs at level 2-3. I found really advanced frigate with torrent drive and hyperfusion reactor and sent it to homeworld's shipyard to retire. In months scraping the ship yield progress in eqionox drive mk1 (currently only gerax available mk1) and 80% progress for fusion reactor mk1. But just before I finished scrapping I ordered to repair it. After it repaired I again made it to retire and got new technologies like quantum reactor mk1 and calista-dal drive mk1 and some progress in other tech including level 5 like quantum reactor mk2.
For instance to progress in quantum reactor mk1 at this stage of the game takes 6 years of scientists dedicated attention.

After that I did it again and it worked, I think you are getting where it is going...

I just experemented and load old save just before I'd started abusing.

Personally, I think retirement should not give techs, maybe intrduce some new mechanics e.g. scrap for technolgies which would be irreversible and take place on research stations instead of shipyards.

What do you think?

Aye, this is a known exploit- if it can be called that for a single player game. Not sure if its on the radar to be fixed, since a player has to make a conscious effort to do it.

Ok, hope devs have something in their backlog at least.
