The Russians were not preparing a military operation, they were preparing a Special Military Operation. Ukraine was supposed to be seized by the actions of the Russian special services (by bribery, betrayal, sabotage). The Russian military covered a special operation. The task of the Russian military was to famously break in in the best traditions of the blitzkrieg school, shoot a little at the partisans, parade along the central avenue of the capital of Ukraine, and celebrate the victory in restaurants. But the Russian special services screwed up, although they managed to secure the surrender of Kherson and New Kakhovka. And the ceremonial Russian army from all over the running run hurt itself against the army of Ukraine.

Therefore, it is a little strange for me to look at attempts to explain the incredible frivolity of the Russian command only by military reasons. The Russian military did not prepare a military operation, the Russian military covered up the operation of the Russian special services. But the Russian spies screwed up. And now the Russian army is dying because of the frivolous decision of its command.

I would say based on my military research the the Russians and the Russian High Command totally misread and mis calculated the Ukrainians both militarily and the Ukrainians will to resist this illegal invasion by Russia into a sovereign nation and the West and NATOs response in support and training of the Ukrainians. Therefore it has been the Ukrainians along with the wests support that is defeating Putins Russians.

Equipment Photos - Russia 3 of 4. These aren't necessary for anything, they are an extra, for when you might wonder what something really looks like, it might be in these folders.

Right next to the prickly issue of the demise of MBT's on todays battlefields is the introduction of widespread drone usage. Are these little winged gems of destruction the beginning of Skynet? Is humanity now relegated to the realms of the underground for protection?

Not if Russia has anything to say about it. They are producing a 12-gauge shotgun with wings to hunt down these affronts to morality and blast them out of the skies. Pictured below is the Vepr-12 mounted within an airframe.

I guess my idea to patent Trebuchet launched Bolas to snag the drones as they fly over has some competition.

Re: Ukraine 2022 - Beta v1.21

This is an important change for v1.21, so it is also in the Scenario Briefing:

UKRAINE ARTILLERY:
Note that separate artillery units for Ukraine have lower Supply Delivery than other units. This reflects the low number of shells that Ukraine has compared to the large number of shells that Russia has. This does not apply to Ukrainian artillery units that are attached to brigade or regiment formations. [This value can be seen in the Formation Report].

This means that those formations, such as the one posted below, will only receive 33% of the Available Supply each turn. I have not play tested it so we will see if 33% is ok or not. This will reduce the number of rounds you can fire effectively. I think it is easy to grasp so hopefully it is not confusing.

I also don't think it is a bad thing to include some of the Missile Units in these 33% Supply Formations. Both sides have limited numbers of missiles.

And the engineers, well, they don't really need 100% supply, do they? ;)

71st Separate Huntsmen Brigade Of Airborne Assault Forces (Ukraine)

This unit popped up recently but it wasn't in the original OOB. After a brief search, I didn't see any other details. So if anyone comes across any info as to when and where it formed, please forward it. For now, it will be added as entering at the west map edge on Dec 15, 2022.

It's this one:
https://uk.wikipedia.org/wiki/71-%D1%88 ... %BD%D0%B0)
71st Jager Brigade. Judging by the name it seems to be light infantry, probably on MRAPs and HMMVWs, it was formed somewhere in April from the mobilized or volunteers, and seen first action near Kharkiv.
Judging by the article, it seems to have recon Airborne company, 4 infantry units, probably battalion-sized (since brigade itself is 3000 men), "cannon-artillery" battalion of 3 batteries (probably D-30 or M777), anti-tank artillery battalion (probably MT-12), mortar battery and ATGM battery, plus supporting units.

I'm currently doing big list of Russian and Ukrainian ORBATs, with list of equipment, structure and formation/war entering date. Will take me a few weeks probably, since I'm attaching prooflinks to every unit in the OOB, but I believe it will be of major convinience to you. I'll post it in the development thread when it's done.

I really like that MilitaryLand site, thanks.

Ah, great thanks. I guess it should arrive in April then.

I'm running thru the Wiki OOB again, which I try to do every couple weeks to catch the latest info. Whatever you are doing will be great, thanks.

Hi everyone,

Still a great scenario, but you should work on early deployment of russian units.
Most of them are deep inside Russia, it takes 2-3 turns to deploy them, putting any Russian player out of schedule.

Another thing: Russian VDV units are prone to "reorganizing" on turn 1: any airborne operation is impossible.

I hate being so picky about two little issues in this wonderful scenario 8-)

Thanks for the input. I agree on both points.

I'll have to adjust the VDV so that they do not suffer such issues as the rest of their Force. The airmobile units must be able to act on turn 1.

Initial deployments should be looked at again. They need to be updated often due to newer info frequently becoming available.
