Working On A Map For The Star Trek Universe

Post by runandhidegamer »

With Distant Worlds 2 is there a way for me to generate a large-sized map, save the game and then delete all the systems on the map.

I have a source document I want to use to accurately map out the systems in the Star Trek universe and add the systems in the correct location to each other.

Yes, sounds very nice/interesting, but I think you'd need very good coding-skills for that, because the galaxy-generation, and several more map-related things are all hard-coded (and additionally obfuscated), so far. :?

The only hope so far is to wait for the developer to allow saved maps to be used when starting a game. As is right now every saved game store the xml data in them as well. Currently you would have to create the map every time you do any kind of xml change and that obviously is not tenable to work with.

We need better moddablity in order to make modds of this nature. So the game are not ready yet, but preparations can obviously be done. Random maps have to be used for now. At least from what I know.
