AI spamming farms

Post by Laodie666 »

For many games I’ve only seen AI mainly building farm. According to manual theocratic and republican culture love farms, but I don’t get how they are still able to sustain an army and tech up with only farms?

Nvm played a bit more and found starting with t4 tech helps the ai building more variety of stuff, but according to my observation they have pretty bad bp and qol production so I often find them fall behind in tech and their pop just all migrate to my developed cities. Emmmmm, AI late game economy could use some work I feel.

Not directly related, but is there any direct behaviour change from Hard to Extreme, or is it only indirect from majors being stronger ? (Though minors and non-aligned are stronger too !)

Other than anecdotal evidence, I have the following:

From recent open beta patch notes: "Some nudges to AI research priorities that make it focus more on crucial battle techs (not done at Beginner, half the improvement at difficulty Regular, full at Hard and higher"

From the manual:

"The higher the difficulty level:
§ The more dangerous the competing AI controlled Major Regimes
will be
§ The more militarized the Free Folk will be
§ The more Alien Lifeforms will group themselves into Units
§ The slower your Militia will (re)grow
§ The quicker Minor Regime forces will (re)grow
§ The more start area the Major AI Regimes will have
§ The more BP the AI will have available
§ The more initial Militia forces the Major AIs will have"

and:

"On hard difficulty all AI forces get +10% combat bonus and +10% movement
bonus. On extreme difficulty all AI forces get +20% combat bonus and +20%
movement bonus."

Also difficulty level impacts minor regime piracy and major regime expansion using MTHs with Oceania.

I don't see any clear AI behavior changes from hard to extreme, just stat bonuses.

Ok i do realize that the ai builds stuff other than farms but there is no way they need to sink that many workers into farms. I wish I can spectate the AI a bit to figure out whether they really need that farm or not. For me, I never needed to have that many farming assets, but maybe that's just cuz as a player my private economy takes care of the farming and food income while the AI can't really build up a private economy properly due to not needing to pay workers salary.

P.S. How do I attach an image? can't figure it out

Drag-and-dropping should just work.

Otherwise use the [img] tags - but you should avoid third-party hosts.

Also, ShEmp is complex enough that a single screenshot is typically not enough, please upload save ?
(Rename it as zip, sadly .se1 is *still* not accepted, I have to report that - AFAIK it's just zip, since 7zip can open it just fine and the compression seem to be the same ?)

P.S.: While the AI doesn't pay salaries, they could still transfer money from the public to the private sector using public budget.

I just finished my game and deleted my saves :/

Though is it not common in your games? It seems like every major regime in every game loves farms for some reason in my experience.

AI is not good with scaling up with technology, so instead they end up going wide with low tech stuff. So for example AI likes to build lots of tanks - which means AI needs lots of oil - which means lots of bio fuel plants and thus they need - lots of food. This is most likely why youre seeing all the farms.
