Scripting Tools

Post by KEYSTONE0795 »

Will there be any changes to the scripting tools going forward? Will comprehensive (other than the excellent instructional videos) documentation be published on the subject?

I started adding some documentation on scripting in the manual.

Take a look at that and let me know how you'd like it expanded?

That reminds me I need to make some more videos!

The CSEE/SAI are pretty much settled. We might add more functions, especially uber functions (in user.lua). Fix bugs too, of course.

The scripting document I would find very valuable would be:

Take an existing (moderately complex) scenario lua file and (in plain language) note what each script/line accomplishes.

Such a document would greatly ease the scripting learning curve.

You're also giving me inspiration to continue with that Tan An Lua video series tutorial that I had started!

Finally loaded the scripting tools into my new PC and created a lua file from a small scenario I created. Looking forward to the game manual being fleshed out with scripting examples. Also - MORE SCRIPTING VIDEOS!!!!!!!!! (Please). :D

*laughs*

Yes, I was thinking just that. I was going to tackle a small Middle East scenario and record it.

Positive vibes.

Have the adaptive AI files been superceded by lua scripting? I see very few AI files in the Vietnam scenario folder.

Yes, you can use a lot of the AI attributes in the Lua file now.

Jason - It appears that you have "many irons in the fire" now with scripting middle east, completing Tet, and hopefully releasing the cold war game. Are there any tasks the community (me included) can assist you with? I ask "selfishly" because I want to see detailed scripting tutorials and documentation :) .

That's an excellent question!

Things that would help are:

1. Testing Middle East scenarios when I get to scripting them.

2. Provide feedback on the scripting videos when I work on them.

3. OOB help would be extremely helpful. Historical structures of the West Germans, East Germans and Hungarians armies down to division level (or lower) would be a huge start for the following dates: 1948, 1955, 1960, 1965, 1970, 1975, 1980, 1985.

I could help with items 1 & 2. I have no reference materials to assist with OOB creation.
