Basic Questions

Post by scout1 »

Some very basic questions I wanted to verify ....

HQ's
- Selection between HQ's with the SAME command rating doesn't matter ? No advantage to one vs the other ?

Terrain impacts
- Is there a unit type (ie infantry/cavalry) attack/defense impact vs terrain listed somewhere ? Didn't see this in the manual though I may have missed it

Naval units
- Is there any disadvantages as to setting these units to raiding if later in naval to naval combat ?
- is there any disadvantage for naval to land unit (fort or unit) attacks ?

If both General Rosecrans and Pope have the same command rating, they are basically the same general and confer the same benefits. The game doesn't model individual personality characteristics like temperament or offensive/defensive/admin talents.

As far as I can tell the game doesn't differentiate between cavalry and infantry when it comes to defensive terrain effects or ability to entrench. Cavalry is just weaker than infantry but scouts and moves better. Target type is probably the more important attribute. (Soft-Infantry-Cavalry-etc.)

Being in raiding mode has no adverse effect on naval combat with other warships or forts. About the only reason to have the raider mode set to off, is if you want your ship placed on or adjacent to a convoy lane for some reason, but you don't wish to raid that turn, thus burning supply and possibly flagging your location to the enemy. I think that's why they changed the default in a patch to "on."
