Ghost ships?

Post by thedoctorking »

This is a strange error, I haven't encountered this before. The French squadron that you can see in the image SW of my BCs just appeared there, well within visual range and even more within radar range. My BCs won't respond to orders to turn and won't shoot. They just drive along straight forward. Then, the French ships disappear, and I get messages asking if I want to pick up survivors from "unsighted". The BCs then will obey orders. A couple of turns later, there are the ghost riders again.

Aftermath: I sailed alongside the ghost squadron for about an hour, with nobody firing or even noticing the other. I tried manual torpedo launches, but that was also not possible. Then, the weather improved and I launched an air strike against them, and then everybody woke up and started shooting. There were still strange refusals to change course by various of my units, though. After a while of shooting up French ships, the "ghost" feature reactivated. The French could only shoot at one of my ships that they had previously crippled and I couldn't fire at any of them. We finally sailed off in different directions. Very odd.

That does sound strange.

Just to be clear - you're at war with France, is that correct?

Did you notice any significant weather changes that may have affected ship behavior?

I was at war with France. I didn't notice if the weather got worse before the fight started, but I did notice that when weather improved, I could select them as air strike targets and when the air strike actually took place, that is, when my planes attacked their ships, then both sides were able to fire on the other.

You're right, though, they were behaving like they couldn't see each other. Except for the fact that I couldn't maneuver my squadron and the business about enemy ships suddenly appearing and disappearing and the game asking me if I wanted to pick up survivors.

Maybe a Halloween Easter Egg? :D

That does sound strange indeed. We'll take a look.

I'm having trouble downloading the save you attached. Do you mind reuploading it + posting it through a file-sharing service like Google Drive or WeTransfer?

I'm sorry, it has long since been replaced by a later save file.
