Is there any way to destroy the freight stored in enemy depot?

Post by helios123 »

Is there any way to destroy the freight currently stored in enemy depot? (Without capturing the depot). I.e when you have a city with presumably lots of freight stored at its depot, it takes a long time to see any reduction in supply of the units stationed there, even if that city is isolated.

What can one do to reduce the supply of units located at a depot?

IIRC, either railyard damage and/or interdiction was supposed to be able to destroy freight at a depot. It doesn't appear this is happening. I'll have to check into this.

Gary has to look into this to be sure, but he thinks that bombing railyards damages freight. You don't get any info about this, but it causes damage. That damage is carried with the freight and eventually results in goods being lost when the freight is converted into actual stuff. We'll try to get back to you once he's looked into it to confirm this.

I did some testing of that a while back and could not find any effect. It is of course possible that something happens behind the scenes in a way that is totally visible in the UI I suppose, but there was nothing I could see.

If you want/need I can dig it up and give you a link if it is helpful, but it should be somewhere in the tech support forum from the past few months.

I've got saves, but thanks for the offer. This is an area where there is absolutely no info for the players so it could be working as Gary intended and we'd never know.

Gary looked into the code and found that air attacks on Railyards and Ports can lead to freight at a depot in the hex being damaged. There is no indication of this "damaged" freight, but it will have an impact over time.

Interesting. Is the impact that the freight is not used, or that replacement equipment which you receive in your units starts off as damaged, or something else?

Damage freight is tracked, and when it is used, the item that was being sent out with that freight, is instead destroyed.
