A couple of questions re maps

Post by Ocean1 »

First, I'm really liking this game! You've done a great job converting AB into what is essentially a new dynamic and graphics, with the same quality tactical gameplay (and even better!).

A couple of questions:
1. Is there a way for scenario editors to type in names on the map - for instance, if I want to give a forest, a street, city or other item a name?
2. In the scenario I'm playing now (Line in the Sand), the objectives have names on them (PL Alpha) with a countdown timer. Is there a way for us to put something like that in place? It also has lines of demarcation, but I know how to place those (Ctrl M).
3. And finally, will there be an opportunity for us to create or alter maps (ie. place buildings, roads, etc.)?

Again, thanks for a great game that I keep coming back to!

In the 'MARK' mode you can place map labels with text.
2. In the scenario I'm playing now (Line in the Sand), the objectives have names on them (PL Alpha) with a countdown timer. Is there a way for us to put something like that in place? It also has lines of demarcation, but I know how to place those (Ctrl M).
Players have the same scenario and map creation tools as the developers. Generate a mission, save it in the last screen, and then edit it in the Mission Editor.
3. And finally, will there be an opportunity for us to create or alter maps (ie. place buildings, roads, etc.)?
The map edit mode is activated by editing "Documents\My Games\Armored Brigade 2\development.ini", and setting the "mapEditMode" value to 1. Then when a map is loaded in the game it can be edited.

First copy the map folder you want to edit to "Documents\My Games\Armored Brigade 2\data\map", edit the map.xml, and give it a unique ID.

This can be used as a starting point (the configuration file name has changed and all custom files are in "Documents\My Games\Armored Brigade 2"): https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 0&t=347261

There is an AB1 map making document available, and we're preparing a simplified version for AB2.

I would like to make a map of the Pristina International Airport and surrounding area. Is there a way to import map data from say Google Earth or similar map programs to make the map.

I tried doing the above suggestion but simply don't know w how to do the elevations for starters.

QGIS has been used for AB maps. There's the map making tutorial available but some have found it a bit overwhelming, so we're preparing a simplified version of it.
