[RESOLVED] Game Slows Immesurably with BNMG Layer and Place Names turned on

Post by Bashkire »

Hello all,

I got a new laptop a little while ago which was a complete upgrade from my previous one in terms of RAM, CPU and GPU and yet my edition of C:MO runs with a monumental amount of lag when the BNMG Layer and Place Names are turned on.

Yes, the work round is turning off those layers which causes the game to run at normal speed again. However, the game SHOULDN'T be running this slowly.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remedy this? I've verified the files on STEAM and deleted the Command.ini file.

If more information is required, please do feel free to ask. I need to get this working properly as I'm due to present a simulation to a department at work to try and get interest in aquiring the Professional version of the software for high level planning purposes.

Does the laptop have a discrete GPU? If yes, can you check that Command is using that instead of the integrated one?

(To check this, enable diagnostics: Game Options --> Map Display --> Show Diagnostics. The name of the currently used GPU should then appear on the map caption text, after the camera altitude etc.).

Yup, that looks like the issue. It's using the "Intel(R) UHD Graphics" GPU instead of my nVidia GPU. I'll look into changing that after lunch.

(In case I get it wrong, where would I find that option?)

NVidia has long provided a per-app configuration option for this as part of its control panel, but lately Windows (11 at least) also has a setting for pinning apps to a specific GPU.

Yup, found it and now the software runs far smoother.

Thank you very much.

For anyone else that may be experiencing the same problem and wants a simple step-by-step guide for Windows 11:
1. Go to Display Settings.
2. Select Graphics in the Related Settings section.
3. Find and select the Command: Modern Operations app from the list.
3a. If the app is not listed, at the top of the list where it says "Add an app" click browse and navigate to the command.exe file.
4. Select Options.
5. Select the graphics card you wish to use.
