Boardgames by PBEM
Curious is it possible to play any boardgames between two or more players that can take turns doing their things through PBEM.
I have this Pacific War and 2nd edition by Mark Herman, the second edition is pretty good and wondering if anyone has it and know how to play it. No luck finding anyone to play with in local areas, but through PBEM could be possible.
Here the boardgame i mention, plus they have tons of boardgames and stuffs on that site...

Try Discord and advertise in the three main VASSAL servers, or the vendor's server (GMT).

That Vassal website is pretty cool, hardly anyone to play with if i choose that module to play. Guess that is why need to stick with SP on Steam games or Matrix games.
The only one that is close to historical games is Hearts of Iron Series. Frankly i hated the last one or fourth series, it is completely garbage game. Something fishy with the third series, cause it is not stable and crash alot.
Darkest Hours is pretty good as well AoD too. Guess i need to hang out on Steam's forum on those games and see if i can find someone to play with. The AIs in those games are terrible and Paradox havent been able to make a good AI to deal with certain strategic games.

Have you tried Consimworld, BGG, and the three VASSAL discord servers (there is also the GMT server)? There is a ton of VASSAL players in the Ethernet and Pacific War 2nd edition is pretty popular.Rising-Sun wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 12:21 pm That Vassal website is pretty cool, hardly anyone to play with if i choose that module to play. In fact I just searched the GMT discord server and in the find-opponents thread there were over 20 hits when I searched for Pacific War.

Well i did see Pacific War and War in the Pacific, but not the second edition though. Pacific War have more player base than WitP does. I need to learn how to use the vassal program and how to get around it.Zovs wrote: Mon Feb 24, 2025 1:32 pmHave you tried Consimworld, BGG, and the three VASSAL discord servers (there is also the GMT server)? Using VASSAL is pretty easy, first you need the main application, and then you need a module. Usually for PBEM you exchange log files which is very easy to do via email. Then you "play" back the log and can actually interact with the log and keep it rolling.
The latest version (2.2.01.05) is the 2nd Edition I believe from GMT.

For a log file preview of how to use VASSAL download Christian Holm Christensen module:
AfrikaKorps-2.1-ch.vmod
https://vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Afrika_Korps
Once loaded click on 'Help | Tutorial' this will load a tutorial on how to use VASSAL and how to play Afrika Korps:

He has also made the same available in the Avalon Hill games such as:
https://vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Fi ... l_Campaign
https://vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:D-Day
Plus some very easy into board games such as:
https://vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Th ... Metz,_1944
https://vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Na ... t_Waterloo
https://vassalengine.org/wiki/Module:Battle_for_Moscow
They all have the tutorial (plus the rules) in the modules.

I never cared for either chess or Elvis, so those are both no go's for me.

Chess game is alright, like to get into something that has much more strategic details. And sorry not much of Elvis fan myself either.Zovs wrote: Wed Feb 26, 2025 9:55 am I never cared for either chess or Elvis, so those are both no go's for me.

Re: Boardgames by PBEM
You could play the game the same way as you would play by snail mail if you want to just by sending the paper information as an email attachment. It would go faster than snail mail but not require any further computer software. Just find some fellow players and a place to have the game where things like cats won't also play the game.

Re: Boardgames by PBEM
There are some boardgames can be play solo or two players, like playing chess on both sides to learn the tactics and what lies ahead. I have done it before, Btw this Pacific War 2nd Edition by Mark Herman is pretty good, been adding more complex details to the game itself. Like getting some ideas from other games and add that to this boardgame, it is pretty good setup. The probably is, i dont have anyone to play with in local.

Re: Boardgames by PBEM
The VASSAL module is spectacular, you will be able to find many opponents of PW2 on Discord.
VASSAL really is the best way to play this board wargame.
