Torpedo numbers

Post by Gratch1111 »

So this is a two part question
1/ You can enter the number of torpedoes in a HQ and after a while they have them, say 100. Is there a way to reduce this number? My question stems from the fact that the later HQ that I have entered torpedo numbers for never gets any torpedoes, and even if I lower the numbers required by the first HQ to say 50, they still have 100 that I entered the first time.
2/ Given question one, is there a finite number of torpedoes that I can have in total? So that if I enter 100 for a number of HQ, there wont be enough left to the rest HQ because as a nation I can only have for instance 600 torpedoes in my HQs.

You can't reduce.
You can have any number of torpedos as you want, there are no limits afaik. But i think you need at least more than 10000 supply, not sure if also requires a 2 or 3 airbase at least.

Only thing that might work is to have the HQ away from a good supply source and use up its torps. Be sure to set the replacements to OFF for the HQ.
Once it is out of torps you may be able to reset the TOE down from 100.

You can reset the TO&E immediately but the number of torpedoes won't decrease until they are used.

There are no limits to torpedo availabilty other than supply and an HQ.

Exracted from the Air War Guide page 17.

Land Based Torpedo Support (7.2.1.10.2.2)
On land, torpedoes can be supplied from any ground unit, yes any! To be able to supply torpedoes the ground unit needs to carry a 'Torpedo Ordnance' device. This is automatic for Air HQ but for all other ground units, including Command HQs and Base Forces, a Torpedo Ordnance' device needs to be added to their weaponry. Air HQs can provide this support up to their command range while for all other units (including Command HQs) it applies solely to the base the unit is in. Each torpedo costs 10 supply points. There are two way to do it.

• Manually the ‘Torpedo Ordnance’ device
To manually add torpedoes click the ‘Get torpedo’ button immediately to the right of the ‘Torpedo Ordnance’
device. This allows up to 20 torpedoes to be immediately supplied at each request but you can repeat this
request any number of times and is only limited by the base supply. These torpedoes remain with the unit
until used by an air unit.

The disadvantage is you do have to keep track of their use or you might find a critical attack going in with
bombs instead. The advantage is you decide when to use them, hence not wasting supply

• Semi-automatically through the TOE
You can automatic keep the unit supplied through the TOE. By selecting ‘Show unit TOE’ the ‘Torpedo
Ordnance’ device will turn yellow. Clicking it allows you to add any number of torpedoed to the TOE, which in
turn keeps the Air HQ’s ‘Torpedo Ordnance’ count at that level, supply permitting. This resupply is carried out
during the next supply phase so there is no immediate effect in setting the TOE figure, but like manual supply,
once drawn it cannot be returned.

The advantage is you don’t have to keep constant check on use, limiting the stock to smaller numbers. The
disadvantage is you might have torpedoes stocked you don’t need them

Note: You don’t have to have the exact same number of torpedoes as there are a/c. An air unit set to use
torpedoes will use whatever is available, the others using bombs in a separate mission if there are not
enough.

The game seems to imply that torpedo supply for Command HQ is automatic with enough supply. It is not.
It also states that BF are used. Yes they can be but I can find none that do in scenario #1.

My understanding is that the BF torpedo supply was removed due to having too many torpedoes available. That device could be added to selected BFs in the editor.

Yes, that's the way I meant however, I've just tried it and it doesn't work. I'm convinced I tested it and it worked before otherwise I wouldn't have written it. Maybe I'm doing something stupid, entirely possible.

This is all irrelevent as only Air HQ can provide torps now. I'm correc the guide.

If you know otherwise please say.
