Need Help with SurfaceTutorial1.5-OpposedTransit

Post by twent »

Hi,

I just picked up the game and did the first four Surface Tutorials. The fifth one in the series is the "exam", and I need help with it, please. To be clear, the name of the scenario is: "Surface Tutorial 1.5 - Opposed Transit".

I found very little help about it on the Internet - there is a discussion here, but it did not help me much:
https://www.reddit.com/r/CMANO/comments ... arfare_15/

The core problem, the way I understand it, is:
FFH 150 Anzac is the anti-air protector, and initially it successfully kills all the incoming missiles using "RIM-162B ESSM Guided Weapon", but it runs out of missiles, at which point the convoy becomes a sitting duck and dies with the next air attack.
I understand the weapon Anzac uses for air-cover is: Mk41 VLS [8 Cells] 4x/cell, appears to have 32 RIM-162B ESSMs.
I checked whether it is an option to replenish from the tanker (just because it teaches how to do that, earlier in the same exam/mission) but of course no VLS supplies on the tanker...

Any tips on what to do, to successfully complete this mission?

That's great, I'll digest that and try again. Thank you.

Just a piece of advice from someone who's been around a while...

Never look for help on Reddit. Most of the posters there, when it comes to complex games, don't have a clue. They typically have not put any effort into understanding the game, naval warfare, or how to socialize.

I know thats a generalization, but Reddit is a swamp. Even the Steam forums are a better place.

Hi Twent

Welcome to the game.
As you have already found out, it has a pretty steep learning curve, but once you get the basics down, it´s incredibly rewarding and fun to play.

Without giving you a complete walk-through (wheres the fun in that ;) ), i´ll give you a few pointers to make it through.

The key is to deny the opfor a targeting solution on you, so only use your active sensors very sparingly, especially radar.
They might detect something, but if you don´t emit, they will not positively know that it´s you and then have to close to ID you, and that´s where you kill them.

Kill the eyes of the enemy and the shooters can´t shoot.

Use your helos (both of them) with Hellfire missiles to recon the area and take out enemy SSM launchers and missile boats.
One sunk missile boat is a lot of enemy SSM´s eliminated.

You have two Anzac´s so always keep one on drift to listen for subs, and remember that the Harpoon II can also hit land targets.

Good luck, and let me know how it went.

OK so I did read this slowly, then gave it another try.
If a more experienced person somehow fails this tutorial at first try and simply reads that, they can probably succeed.
It tells you what to do, but having read that and tried to follow it, I still did not succeed.
One of the issues somehow unintentionally interrupted low-on-fuel heli and it crashed to sea and got destroyed.

That was not the reason for the doomed outcome though, I feel there is a huge skill mismatch at the moment so rather than trying again, I will just follow one of the "Beginner's Guide"s on Steam, and start from scratch with submarine tutorials, gain more experience with the game, and retry this scenario at a future date.

Thanks for your input. I agree that Reddit is not a great resource and can be toxic, but sometimes, for other games (and topics) I do find solutions there, so I am not at the level to completely disregard ANYTHING on Reddit, just because it exists in that particular website.

Welcome to the game.
...
Hi and thank you for the warm welcome. I put your comment and tips in my notes, I will use that once I revisit this tutorial but I will park it for now as it has many moving pieces (and platforms, weapons, of which I know zero). It takes quite a bit of time for me to just browse "scenario platforms", and make notes of capabilities, ranges etc.

I think at this early stage of my CMO development I want one player-vessel and ideally half or at most one enemy vessel :)
