WITPAE: hex display

Post by kschindl »

I switched the hex and hexside display off in the preferences, but after loading the game they still display.
Startup: "War in the Pacific Admiral Edition.exe" -dd_sw -f -px1920 -py1080 -skipVideo -altFont -cpu2 -archive

Hex and Hexside display are not the same thing.

Playing with or without hexes is a map style and is permanently on or off and can only be controlled prior to loading a game through the peference screen.
Hexside detail displays the type of terrain between hexes and thus what can move between them. It's either land, sea, both or nothing. This can also be set through the preferences screen but more importantly can be turned on or off anytime in game using F6.

In case you are talking about the un-highlighted grid, that is part of the map and cannot be turned off. Players that have no hex grid showing are using a non-stock map.
The highlighted grid can be toggled with the F6 key.
The w key toggles hexside ownership info.

i know it is not the same
nevertheless i always see the hexex highlighted (light green) and yes i know it must be turned off before loading. so it is turned off, but the hex still displays

no i don't talk about the unhighlighed (black) hexes. i talk about the highlighted light green hexes.
and thx for the F6 key. dunno why i missed that in the manual, went over they hotkeys list over and over and must have misunderstood F6.

I think if the highlighting was on when you saved the game before exiting, it will be on when you restart the game and load the save. Now that you know how to turn it off, just do that before you save the game again. When you restart with the preference set to off, it should start without it.
