I know what you mean. I'm not a 'modder' myself, but I have changed some things in my version of the Bacon/Extended/DWUR mod by using other peoples work (it's for personal use only, not for uploading, so i think it's ok...Alucard0Reborn wrote: ↑Tue Apr 08, 2025 9:50 pm I don't understand how no one has a copy of 2.0. Is modding just dying for older games? Civ 4 had a super vibrant modding community that released some really cool mods from different universes yet it's also just as dead as DWU is. I feel like the modding we grew up with in the 90's early 2000's to 2015 was so banging, yet now companies rarely release good modding tools that give you complete freedom anymore. Civ 4, Dawn of War, Distant Worlds Universe, and many other games let you make full on conversion mods, but now it all feels like a thing of the past, Civ 5 changed the way you could mod it, and you could no longer make completely different world mods anymore, and Civ 6 was even worse. Gaming now a days feels so depressing, the industry is so big and oversaturated now. Sorry, I know I'm just ranting into a void, but it just makes me so sad..

There's still a modding community for REALLY old games like the 1990s XCOM (the Openxcom project), but like you I see modern games as so complicated (and need too much DLC) that the gameplay is horrible. I used to play Galactic Civilizations 2 and tried 3 when it came out, but when the 3D was added the gameplay was ruined. I haven't tried 4 as their DLC is too much and it's getting ridiculous. Even the screenshots of DW2 can't convince me to give THAT a go either unless they bring out a cheaper full DLC content version like they did with DWU.
I'll stick with the DWUR mod (and the Openxcom Piratez and XCOMfiles mods)!
