Do you want a Gary Grigsby game on Vietnam or a game similar to War in the Pacific on Vietnam? The two are now different critters at this point. Grigsby has had nothing to do with the War in the Pacific style game engine since the release of the original WitP in 2004. He's moved on to different games. AE was done with none of his input, though his name was on it because it was an extension of the original WitP built on a heavily modified version of the WitP code base.

I can't go into any details about the Spanish Civil War game here, though beta testers can know a bit more than can be said on a public forum.

Doesn't matter what engine the game uses. As long as Gary Grigsby's name is on the title card, it will be the most immersive and detailed Vietnam War wargame on the market.

As far as I know, he has nothing to do with the game.

Gary Grigsby doesn't do the most detailed and immersive games anymore.

It's not as detailed as AE. I haven't played it, but I have it and have looked at it. It is fairly detailed, but AE is more detailed.

im sorry but dissing on gary in the witp forum is insane behavior. witp land combat wishes it could be wite2-level. yeah. but that’s exactly the point: he did both (AE is basically a huge mod based on witp foundation).

i see in your signature you’re on the scw dev team. no offense to you or your team, whatever scw even is. but if you’re gonna take shots at the man who helped define this whole genre, im sure your game is not gonna get far. no one’s gonna play it.

I was on the AE team too. I know what went into it. We did extensive rewriting of the code as well as major changes to the unit databases. The core game design is Gary Grigsby's and the underlying game engine was originally from 2X3 which branched off of the original WitP, but it was pretty extensively modified. I can't talk about SCW, but I'm sure people will be pleasantly surprised.

that’s actually a huge relief lol. i thought this new spanish civil war game was gary & joel’s next project at first, and i was disappointed as hell (since it’s not even ww2). so your post basically confirms we still don’t know what gary’s next game is. ya ha!!

but for real, how could you be on both the AE team and this new scw game and still have the audacity to talk down on gary? AE completely transformed witp, yeah. but it wouldn’t exist without witp, a game made by gary and the original 2by3 team.

and the fact that this scw game is built off the witp engine just makes it even more ironic. no gary = no witp, no AE, no scw. simple as that.

I'm the only person who has done anything close to a deep dive into the code for both AE and SCW. There is one other person who knows the AE code well and has at least looked at the CW code, but I'm the only one who has written code for both. I repeat what I said the other day: people will be pleasantly surprised.

I like the idea of a computer Spanish Civil War game, new territory and a pre-war OOB is a nice change-of-pace.

Mostly just that the SCW was a test bed for new tools of war, i.e., the Bf-109, along with concepts prior to WW2.
