Sound?

Post by wodin »

Here is a wish from me.

Its a point I feel is so overlooked in this type of game yet adds so much to the atmosphere.

Sound effects. Please try and give the game some authentic high quality sound effects to add to the atmosphere. Even shells exploding in the background with the odd chatter of gun fire would be great as a subdued background sound.

How about some music which fits in with the era during the menu screens. It could differ depending what side your playing.

Good and also importantly varied sound effects during the game would really give a fantastic WW1 feel.

Oh yes one last thing as well as giving an abstract number for the casualties how about also giving a real number of casualties. Even break them down (doesnt have to be scientific) to wounded missing and killed. The reason being is that it would show the player the enormity of casualties during this war. Aswell as showing how easy it was to lose so many men on a particular battle.

Thanks

The casualties for each side are displayed on the right hand side of the screen throughout the game.

Hi!

As a gamer and amateur historian, I zeroed right in on the casualties display. When you have a big battle and you see those numbers jump by 300,000, you can't help remember the carnage that this war exemplified.

a note on casualty statistics:

casualties would be most accurately denoted by listing killed only or missing presumed dead. WWI casualty reports on wounded were very sketchy because they were sometimes listed as number of cases and other times number of wounds so this statistic is notoriously error-filled. The prologue in John Mossier's "The myth of the Great war" does an excellent job of explaining these variances.
