OOB's.....which one to keep

OOB's.....which one to keep

Post by MaxGross »

In the SPWAW root directory I have noticed a few different kinds of OOBXXX.exe files. Two have tool bars on the bottom the rest have the tool bars on the top. I have noticed that when I change (or tweek) the contentse through the editor, that change(s) appear in all the others.

I have two computers. When I went to update the second one with V.6.1 with a RW\CD I edited out what I thought were unnessary OOBXXX files on the old game before executing all the upgrades. When I upgraded my second computer fron V.4.5 to V.6.1 the OOB didn't change at all. (Very Confusing) So it seemed That I was using the V.4.5 OOB with all my tweeks on V.6.1. The game worked Just fine. It did have a few wierd occurances like flying trucks or rocket launchers instead of the designated aircraft. Actually it was very comical to watch. But the game never crashed nor did I experience any major operating problems other than now it wont let me edit the OOB files even with the corrected OOB versions. Not to worry though I am going to reload the whole game from a saved Zip file I made from my first computer.

So my question to anyone in the know, is which OOBXXX.exe files do you really need to run the game without causing any major complications? I began from V.1 and have been upgrading since then. I imagine there are a lot of unnecessary files lying around in that root directory that I can delete.

OOBXXX = Any OOB file with letters or numbers after the OOB.

Thank You

MaxGross

Help I've got V6.1 and I checked my oobs with the oob editor and it says V5.2 or 5.3. What have I done wrong? I installed from the MCNA disk then the patches.

If you have OOB-folder, delete it. OOBs that mech.exe uses are located in root-directory, in the same level as Mech.exe is. Have you zipped btw game from installed version? It is wrong way to do this. You should install game from zips that you did Download as installation routine does write things in correct places. If zipped/burned from installed version you don't get everything to the cd. There are few files in windows also, but I don't remember what their names were. (no its not combat-client related.)

But that flying equipment was fun Wish my Tigers could do it

5.2 is the correct oob revision, v5.3 and v6.1 are .exe revisions that don't change the oobs.

When the v7 oobs are released you may see people whining about v7 the same way they whined about v5, vowing to play with v4.5 oobs forever.
thanks, John.
