RE: Just went through the demo.
So, I finally had a chance to look at your errlog.txt file. The problem is that the game is unable to create a 32-bit Z-buffer (DirectX reports this as an unsupported operation on your video card).
Now, that sounds really weird to me. I'm having a hard time believing that a modern ATI Radeon card doesn't do 32-bit Z-buffering. So far, I can't find any information one way or the other on this issue online. The specs from ATI say that the Radeon chipset does Z-buffering (using something called "Hyper-Z II" technology) but they don't indicate what bit depths are supported.
I'm going to have to contact ATI developer relations to see what the problem might be. In the mean time, it sounds like you are stuck with 16-bit color.

Thanks for the effort!ORIGINAL: John DiCamillo

But I seem to have fixed it, someway... I disabled 32 bit support in the DirectX Compatibility Configuration.[8|]

Does that mean you had previously disabled 32-bit support and have now re-enabled it? Or vice versa?

I had it previously enabled. And now it is disabled.ORIGINAL: John DiCamillo

It's strange. I know.
RE: Just went through the demo.
I tried to install it on a computer with a voodoo5500 and forced 32bit textures in my driver settingsORIGINAL: John DiCamillo
2. If you have a 3Dfx Voodoo card, Starshatter may not be able to set its default screen color depth to 32 bits. If you are in this situation, contact me through email.
that did just the trick to get through to the default config routine
once in game you can changed the settings back again to 16bit [8D]
unless Milo really wants to get lots of emails, you can try the following for older Voodoos
(tested and worked for me)
manually create a "video.cfg" file and copy in:
Code: Select all
VIDEO
width: 640
height: 480
depth: 16
d3d: 7
max_tex: 256
primary3D: false
gamma: 128
terrain_detail_level: 2
terrain_texture_enable: false
flare: false
corona: false
nebula: false
dust: 0

I've really enjoyed the demo.
It brings back many fond memories of the old TSR boardgame, "Knight Hawks", in the Star Frontiers universe. In fact, with the ship types and such, they seem made for each other.
Is there a rough release date set yet? I haven't come across anything in the fourms about it.

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Those with corrupt downloads:
I've found that a lot of corrupt download problems that I had came down to one source: IE. Try to download a different browser like Opera or Mozilla. If you still get corrupt dl.. then no idea, but that worked for me.

The countdown to Summer Savings? You're damn right it is!
