Can ya'll give me an idea on how grand the scope of fleet battles get?

Post by LonghornXtreme »

I'm planning on buying the game tomorrow as soon as I finish my application to professional school (which is taking WAYYYY too long btw... hehe)

How large do the fleet battles get? I don't want any spoilers but I'm trying to get an idea on how grand a multiplayer or single player epic fleet battle could get. Is it possible for 2 fleets to face off where its on the level of say 30-40 capital ships a side with multiple carriers on each side?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

Since Ive bought the game Ive basicly just beein moding.

But I just finished playing a mission in my mod with 8 Corvettes, 8 Heavy Fighters, 16 Medium fighters (as escorts for the corvs and hfs) against a Carrier, 16 HFs and 8 LFs.

I just barelly managed to survive the assult. My fighter wings managed to get the 8 Heavy fighters and send the Corvettes running. I got the remains of my fighter wings recovered and quantumed out of sector with about 10ish percent hull left on the carrier.

My guys ended up killing all 8 HFs, 1 Corvette and 2 MFs. I dont remember how many kills where caused by my gun turrets on the carrier but I know at least 4 HFs died to the turrets.

This mission can be played just as well as a single player mission as a multiplayer mission.

Though there are just not enough people owning the game yet for this big multiplayer battles.

MP doesnt have any restriction in numbers it just depends on server cpu and bandwidth to the server so you could theoreticly have huge fleet battles with more then 100 people involved.

Gets pretty rough with just a couple of DD wings and the CV group. Beyond that becomes uncontrolled carnage.

Naaah Mr Frag...

Its all about your situation awarness... its how much information your brain can process and how well you can visuallize where everyone is to be able to attend to what is needed.. tunnel vission is the death of any pilot in any scenario..

There's no hardcoded limit (although there may be a very real hardware limit for some of us if the number of cap ships grows over 50). I'm still playing the demo here (I'm waiting for the boxed version), and I can say that brutal clashes involving 3-4 capital ships are a very common occurence even in the opening moves of what essentially starts out as a humanitarian relief and peacekeeping campaign.

You must like the pause key. I never use it and since I can't order ships past #9 around, it gets pretty messy [:'(]

If we are talking fighters, then yes, but why would you use radio in a capital ship, when you can right-click? Bar requesting information on status, it doesn't have much use.

Well I have a linear series of missions going right now that has a terran task force of 5 destroyers, 3 frigates, and a carrier that has launched multiple squadrons of fighters and bombers, against a blockading opposing force consisting of 5 destroyers, 2 frigates, and 65 fighters in two wings.

Quite the visual I must say. Quite epic. If not damned near impossible scrambling to stay alive. Try to think "In Death Ground" or "The Shiva Option" and you'll get the idea. lol

Terran? Never heard about that. Is that another faction of the game or something you made up yourself?
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

Just something I'm goofing around with. "Terran" is not in StarShatter but rather a generic term for "mankind."
