GeForce owners may want to look at this

Post by Rocco »

Hi,

If you have a geforce card and have a slow or sluggish map scroll speed (like me), try to update to the new drivers posted July 27. I updated mine to these and the map now scrolls plenty fast. I don't know if many other people have this problem, but I thought it would be worth posting.

The drivers are available at the nvidia website. Interestingly, they aren't WHQL'd, but they work for me. I'm REALLY happy now.

Rocco, were you getting slow animation playbacks also? Currently with 1.21 I still have very sluggish playback of naval battles on my work machine to the point where I cant watch them. I think it does have these drivers on there though unfortunately, but Ill double check.

Yes, the animations during surface combat were sluggish too.

I didn't check to see if they were faster now or not, I just saw the map scroll by real fast, got excited, and came here to share the info.

I'll have to go check...thank god for the tutorial scenario

Well, the surface combat animations definitely were faster.

The battle:

2 BB
2 CA
4 DD
for each side

It started off flying through the animations like a cheetah. The combat lasted well over 20!!! rounds. Towards the last few rounds it did start to bog down a bit, but for the most part it was definitely a great improvement for me.

Hope it helps someone else out too. The driver version # is 6177

BTW I was hoping play4ers would use the tutorial scenario for testing and setting up saves that could be used to kill bugs. Glad to see someone is using it as intended.

I`ve used it a lot as H to H to test on how to surpress those %*&&#!! CD Guns prior to landing. Also passed on a report on the B-29`s that just stopped flying one day.

Great education tool IMO, thanks for the work Kid [;)]

Unfortunately they dont seem to help for me as I still have very slow (unwatchable) playber of naval battles. Anyone else had any luck getting rid of this problem?

It is a great tool, I appreciate the work you put into it for us. Those who don't realize how useful the tutorial is should really try it out.

Read this thread, went and got the new drivers, and now I have "Fatal Error 774" on startup.

D'oh!

Guess I need to revert...

Tutorial was great but I wish you had made us one for the early war years as well. Say June 1942 or something.
That would aid out in testing too.

Thanks Rocco, that solved all my problems.

Im forced to wonder, seeing as when I originally complained about the problem I was told (by none other than Mr. Frag) that "I don't see how ou could be having any problems, I had to turn on map scroll rates to even duplicate the map problems", whether the devs even tested this game on Geforce cards. If they all tested with ATI cards, then I could see Frags opinion. However, if they did test with Geforce cards, they would have figured this out a month ago.

For this one, I thank Rocco and Nvidia.

Tankerace,

What is with all the shots to the beta testers all the time? Your graphic add-on had some issues as well when first released, these issues that this game has will get fixed.

Im not taking shots at the testers. I am happy that finally I can watch the combat animations, which was the reason I made my mod in the first place. I was posting only what I was told about the problem, and saying that I am glad it was not an integral problem with the game and/or my machine.

Like Frag had said, I should have had no problems, so for the past month I have been rust test after test on my system, because I have been thinking I've had some phantom glitch in it. And it is a simple fact that, if I am thinking correctly (lol) if they had tested on a Geforce card, they should have found that the old drivers (then current) had an issue.

Plus, I am not upset at the guys that made this game, but apparently my CD on demand order has been lost in the abyss, and their store is giving me the run around that they shipped it almost three weeks ago. Its quite frustrating.

As to my mod, remember this. It was free, this game wwasn't (which now I dont mind considering I can play it as it was meant too, thank God).

To the devs, I am not griping to you guys, I am a little miffed that your store/DR/some jack*ss has been giving me the runaround. All I meant by my post is that I am glad this issue was resolved, because like you guys had said, I should have had no problems.

@Tankerace...I feel your frustration. I too have not gotten my back-up CD and although i should get "another" one in the next "14 business days" i am totally disgusted by DR's lack of reliability. I could have used my CD to a) get a manual printed at Kinko's and b) try it my other PC's the 30 some days i waited for 1.20/1.21[8|]. Now i realize that the CD is useless because i would need to download another 200-300 mgs of patches etc. by the time i had a legitimate use for it. The main consolation being that this game is truly unique and there is nothing comparable out there period. So, if i had to go through all this bogus frustration to get to this point i figure it was a neccesary evil. I do feel a morbid sense of guilt when i see other people having problems, especially when they didn't pre-patch, even though i have just gotten up and running. Witp is a true masterpiece, i guess we have to earn it[;)]. Again, if it wasn't for Matrixs' commitment to excellence and the hard work of a lot of you on the forum... i shudder to think of the ramifications[X(].

I agree with you whole heartedly HellPatrol. Even though I am bitching about some problems of the game, most of that is just frustration over Digital River. And yes, I too would have gone through all this stuff again to get WiTP, as the game is just that good.

Sorry if I came off blunt Tankerace, you contribute a lot to this game, (your graphics mod is great), just saw some comments and was wondering. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I can understand your frustration, but I am sure that the everything will be ironed out. The game has only been out a month. [:D] I can not wait for your new scenario when it comes out.

I'm surprised at how many CDs seem to have gone astray. Of course as Matrix aren't shipping them it's either a Digital River or USPS problem. Is the USPS really *that* bad, or do DR have to shoulder some of the blame as well?

Oops, sorry seem to have got OT here.[:o]
