reload/recharge?

Post by Sc0rp »

well I keep on going on these sweep missions and I end up fighting in these massive battles with ships that have a shield and everything, so after shooting all my stuff at one of these ships (with a shield) their mostly dead but im a goner too since I havent got any fire power left..

so whats the idea with this kind of stuff? since there's no way on earth I can waste 8 ships with only 4 torpedo's and my primary blasters..

have I missed something or is this just lame?

The best I've come up with is to waste the primary target and bug out and head for home. If you want, you can have your wingman engage the other targets, they seem to be far more impervious to missiles.

Then you just drop figthers until you are low on ammo and hull and run for home. That's all a sweep is, a hit and run. This isn't Wing Commander, if you don't quite take them all out, you'll just have to come and get them later.

The purpose of a sweep is to take out enemy aircraft (spacecraft) without losing ANY wingmen. Rule 1 of a sweep is to only press if you have a significant advantage. If you're winchester, avoid engaging enemy combat aircraft.

Under no conditions in a sweep can you consider yourself to be at a significant advantage against a capship. The only way to have a significant advantage is if they're almost dead and you have harpoons onboard. Sometimes I'll carry a pair of these with a F-36, but then it's technically no longer a sweep package, but a self-escorted S&D package.

Edited for grammar.

if your in a fighter I dont beleive a sweep mission target would eb a cap ship. Look around for a fighter escort.

Now if it's a lonely Destroyer floating out there, why not? They are easy prey for solo fighters. Just get a nice higher speed, switch to a low EMCON, and drift into a sweet spot locate beneath and behind the DD. Flip you guns back on and take the DD apart while using translational thrusters to keep yourself in the blind spot of the DD. Mind you this strategy takes forever, and you will must likely damage you in the blast (they should really be making the torpedoes out of what ever the engine is made out of, if it can plink my hull at 20 klicks, it must be almost 400 times more powerful at the point of the blast!)
